Oh happy day. I was all grumpy because the people who duped armor from various endgame events appeared to be getting off 100% free. But today the bans came rolling down! Yay!

72 hour temp bans and perma bans, depending on how many items were duped (perhaps weighing in your previous record).

It's so amazingly totally amusing to read the threads on BG about it! "It's SE's fault for sucky programming!" "It's SE's fault for having sucky drop rates!" Ha ha ha, yeah. Loophole. You took advantage of it. Bye bye!

So amused. So happy cheaters aren't getting away with this. Yay SE!

No word on if the armor has been taken away (guess we'll find out in 72 hours!). I sure hope it has been.

I only duped skadi hands but it's only a suspension for me, heh ^^; 3 days doesn't hurt, time to look for something to do in that case. :s

Yeah, three days is just a slap on the wrist. Let me know if you still have the hands when you return? I'm curious about that.

will do :p it's still silly regardless; this is my first warning, so fairly sure it's not a perma ban.

will probably post in my LJ when I can log back in and if something happens etc, keep a look out then :p

see ya this weekend!

I don't usually read BG threads. But some of the things coming from people who got perma banned due to this are utterly HILARIOUS. Oh I have been laughing good today.

Seriously. Some of the rationalizations we're seeing from these people are comedy gold.

I don't know. I've never duped anything. Hell, I've only done salvage once as a duo with a nin friend. But I still see a problem with it. It's not like these folks are RMT'ers. Banning RMT makes sense. But banning players who were not scrupulous and exploited a weakness for personal gain makes less sense to me. Taking away the gear seems more in line with the crime to me.

Also, SE's punishment seems to be extremely uneven. For example, I know someone who lead a salvage group, was alliance leader, and regularly did dupes. She got off with an email warning. Others I know that went along with a salvage group once or twice, and they weren't leaders, and didn't even get anything out of those specific runs, suddenly permaban. Just because they didn't leave the event the moment the leader did it? Seems punishments aren't fitting the severity of the crimes.

It's against the TOS though. Using an exploit instead of reporting it breaks the rules.

Agreed on the unevenness of it though. I think everyone who duped should be banned. Perma? Maybe not. Three days is a joke though. How about a month plus have the items removed?

Now there's a good idea. One month ban plus take items away. Sounds very fair. What bothers me really is the permaban when they can't be sure of the history or who was responsible (you'd think alliance leaders, but apparently not?). To me that seemed particularly off.

Well, according to somebody who is closer to the situation, some people were selling Salvage drops. (Of course, thanks to the duping trick, they weren't really giving up anything...) So, yeah, some people took this pretty far.

Ya from what I was reading about the people who got perma banned were the ones who did it very often. Like, those who only ever did it a couple times or were in a group where someone did it and they didn't know got like a warning or a temp ban. But those people who were blatantly taking advantage of it got ban hammered. When it comes to the actual banning of people for something, I'm generally against it, but it looks like SE got it right this time.

its really not a funny situation

How is it not a funny situation? EXPLAIN THAT TO ME PLEASE!

Edit: *glances at your LJ* "Let me just say right now, SE fucked up. Its not our fault they had an exploitable design." .... *dies* GTFO of my LJ.

"Your honor! It's not my fault the bank had money! It's their fault I took it!"

Gods. I can totally see why you see no humor in this situation. Sheesh.

I don't really find this funny. Just mind-boggling. I mean, what did people expect? Duping is about the worst thing you can do in an online game. You are far, far more likely to get away with player harassment than duping items. SE is not the only company, nor will it be the last, to come down hard on item duping. (Blizzard has done that in the past with Diablo II; I don't know if they've done that with WoW.)

Mind-boggling it is. I can't believe there are people, supposedly adults, walking out in the world believing in logic like this.

Someone on BG posted a quote from elsewhere. A fake headline. "Generation Y shocked to find the world doesn't owe them cookies." That really applies here. "But I wanted it!" isn't an excuse for cheating...

Did someone shit in your cheerios this morning? People took the risk with something that was clearly an exploit and those who took advantage of it hardcore got perma'd. If they really worked so hard to get all their relics and gear they wouldn't have taken the risk. But they did, and they lost, and now they have to deal with it.

Don't worry if you don't get a reply from Mr. Better Than Thou, he's the first and only person I've ever banned from my LJ. Though I hate to have lost someone who'd leave a comment like this:

Anyway since you would never do anything wrong like bot, you can give up
your dreams of being in an HNM.

Oh nos, no HNM LS for me! *snickers endlessly*

Awww, I was actually hoping to get some fun out of him still >.>

I'm surprised you hadn't banned him much earlier for some of the other things that have been said on the LJ but I guess you just have more patients then moi.

I know. I was tempted a number of times, because he really seems like a plain ol' asshole/troll, but my LJ is for dialog and so if I booted people just for disagreeing with me it'd hurt the conversations... but he kept crossing the line into insults. Finally that last comment of his was too much.

Disagree with me? 100% fine. Insult me or my readers? Not fine at all.

Nevermind that I've been in 2 HNM LSs. Both explicitly forbid botting, exploits, hacks, etc. We've had members obviously bot to get claim on kings...and their pearl was immediately broken. The last HNMLS I was in had 2 relics, all of the currency legitimately farmed or traded for.

You're right though, Thistle. This guy is good for a laugh.

You missed his comment I deleted, too (seems like you have to delete a comment to block the user -- too bad, it was quite amusing). Apparently I'm leveling my crafting mules just so I can sell my character for more money! And I also have no hope of getting into a HNM LS (nevermind I've outright said (posted) I didn't want to join one two days ago...).

Really, too funny. :D

It's hilarious in some cases and this is harsh but if you couldn't tell it wasn't supposed to happen that way, did you buy your account? Because if you actually played up to the point of doing Salvage and you really genuinely didn't think it was a glitch instead of blaming SE that you're dumb you should be a little embarrassed that you were so naive instead of flaunting it.

It boggles me that a person could believe in the "logic" (ha ha ha) he used.

"But... but... but... the store had the item! And I wanted it! So it's their fault they had something I wanted! Why wouldn't I just be able to take it without paying? *confused look*"

Wow. I've never blocked someone from commenting in my LJ before. You tempted me many times before today, but you've finally crossed a line.

Bye bye cheater~!
