I should be asleep, especially since I've been short on sleep for a week now, but brain won't shut off.

Disgruntled on FFXI. Dynamis is... frustrating and annoying, both for things that could be controlled and things that cannot. Haven't gotten a drop I wanted in months, haven't gotten a drop of any kind in weeks. If I had one 75 job and needed only a couple pieces that would be understandable, but I have six jobs I'm collecting pieces on. I'd really like to stop going, but I have so many partial sets it's killing my inventory. 4/5 BST, 4/5 RDM, 2/5 WHM, BRD, & MNK, 1/5 BLU. That's 15 slots I'd never get back unless I finish the sets and can store them.

I think I'll at least change my main lot to BLU. There are a ton of people main lotting BRD and I neither really want BRD stuff nor does it drop often. At least BLU stuff I want and it drops well... well, had been dropping well before I started leveling the job. Since then not one piece has dropped (and the LS has multiple BLU 75s, too).

I'm really, really, seriously tired of the majority of my weeks taken up with FFXI crap. Three weeknights out of five are tied up (CoP static, Dynamis, ZNMs), and one weekend day (Dynamis). That leaves me two weeknights and one weekend day off. That's just really not right, this is supposed to be a game, not a second job... Maybe I'll finish BLU (and hopefully BST) and then quit Dynamis.

---

RP kept me sane tonight. I majorly multitasked during Dynamis and had fun RP. Thistle learned that the Reef exists, EEEEEEE! Scene ended with him running off and getting lost returning to the ship to ask Cid if they could go there next.

Scary: I was RPing with a headwiz alt without knowing it! And I had hit on him/flirted with him endlessly before I knew. :P It's cool that the game has a headwiz as pervy as me, but still: eek! What if he hated me? What if my RP sucked? (It wasn't up to par, I was multitasking!) What if he kicks me off the gaaaaammmmeeeee! *sob*

Heehee.

Query: What mechanism do you use to RP? Is it a game client/chat room/forum/etc? What rules/mechanics are involved? I'm involved in a pretty laid-back forum RP, and I could use some ideas to keep my part of the story going while I wait for the DM to take some action which is necessary to advance the story.

Sometimes it keeps me sane, too, but most of the time it makes people question my sanity. I keep making serious characters and then using them for...decidedly non-serious things, such as the King of Scundia* tearing through the streets of a semi-hostile foreign city chasing his own kilt. Oh, and I also turned the Crown Prince of Maar Sul** into a sheep, but in my defense I've been RP'ing him for nine years and I can do whatever I want now.

*Nation renowned for its stupidity. The King isn't stupid, though. Most of the time.
**I created this nation and kept it serious for the most part.

I'm currently playing on a MUX (another form of a MUSH/MUCK, which evolved from MUDs). A text-based RPG. :D

wiki'ing that led me to TinyTIM, which I think would harm my ability to RP seriously instead of having the King of Scundia running around with his junk hanging out :)

So it's a client you have to download...are these things spectator-friendly, or would I actually have to join a RP to see what people are doing? I don't think I could transfer my main character into an alternate world, because his backstory is...to say the least, epic. He used to be half-god, because the DMs (rightfully) trusted me not to godmode. Can't expect strangers to accept "half-god bard with mommy issues who had all of his powers taken away because some dude betrayed the Grand Alliance thousands of years ago, and by the way he's just starting to get his first gray hairs now. Oh yeah and he died once, but he got better."

I swear Leon is mostly a serious character. I just can't summarize the stuff that happened to him in a serious manner. The DM got massive laughs out of taking one point in my character summary (comedic) and comparing it to the (serious) original event.

I've never heard of TinyTIM and Google isn't giving me any helpful results, but if you're saying it would hurt your ability to RP, it must not be closely related to a MUX. A MUX/MUCK/MUSH is basically just one bit text-only chatroom. Plain text, no font changes or color changes (unless you desire those things, then you can set it so that you (and only you) can see it). It's just a way for people to be able to write together, nothing more than a few simple commands to help with that.

So it's a client you have to download...are these things spectator-friendly, or would I actually have to join a RP to see what people are doing?

Sort of, yes. A user/player needs only download a client (you could just use raw telnet, but that's really rough) and then finds a game they want to play, then join (usually an application is required).

As to spectator-friendly, it depends on the individual game's rules. The one I'm on now does not let guests wander the IC area, but some would. Failing being able to watch, you could just read a log to see the same thing. (I can find one to upload later if you want to see.)

TinyTIM is full of Monty Python references.

And a brief log would be great, to see if it's in a format I can use (Ours is in paragraph form, like a book); if it's in a usable format I'll do my own research from there.

Paragraphs for us, too. I opened a random log and cut out a few poses. I was playing Thistle, the other person was running a couple NPCs so she had three people speaking in her poses.

-----

Come on now, when Thistle's in his playful I'm-gonna-get-myself-beaten-up mood, he'll hit on just about anything female. Luckily that excludes galka and usually elvaan. But either way, he pushes the need to joke far, far away. That task is made easier when she notes aloud how much time he's been spending with Deven. "Ah... yes." Don't blush, don't blush, don't you dare blush. Nodding, he agrees, "I'm a Dark Knight, ma'am." While he waits for her, he glances at the taru and nods a greeting to him. The game gets another look, but he resists going closer to see, then his gaze returns to Kel. Following her to the bar, he sits, stomach rumbling at the sight of all the food. Mmm, smells yummy. "Juice is good, thank you." The meal looks good and he's hungry, but the card game is close! As he lifts his fork, he takes another quick look at the game, then digs into his food.

Excludes Galka, but not Elvaan. See: Aven, Fye, Des, Mal, etc. "Dark knight, hmm? From the western lands?" Questions are asked as she putters about, getting that glass of juice for you as you dig in. Down the bar, the taru's attention is back on the game, making all sorts of annoyed faces as he lays down a card and picks up another. Beside him, the Elvaan merely brushes his thumb methodically over each of the cards in his hand, then pushes in a small stack of gil. This makes the taru squirm, but the veil of the Elvaan's hair hides his expression from you. Finally, the taru grumps and tosses down his cards. "Two pair, fours and tens." That earns a silky chuckle from the elvaan and he sets his own cards down without a word. Given the face the taru slumps and covers his face with his tiny hands, he's been beaten. "Never playin' cards with you 'gain. Never." Setting the cup of juice near your plate, Kel just laughs at the pair. "You said the same thing last week. I'm surprised you have gil left."

Nodding to her, he answers around bites, "That's where I'm from, but I've spent most of the last year around here. I like it here..." his words kind of fading out as his attention is drawn back to the game. The long-haired elvaan's hair get a bit of a look (how's he fight with it? Doesn't it get in the way of everything? And, um, just... why?) then his eyes go back to the cards as he eats. Another couple bites, then he looks back to Kel. "It's good! Thanks," he gives her a smile, then his eyes cut back to the game as the taru loses. Though he tries to give him a sympathetic, the interest in his eyes affects it a bit.

"Good! It's always nice to know Aht Urhgan still has her charm." Even if she's overrun by Immortals... Ahem. Noting your curiosity, she gestures down the way to the cardplayers. "The little one is Stahreel, he goes by Star. He was a thief before he joined us, very skilled. Unfortunately, he has yet to get the hang of certain card games." At that, Star hops up and jabs his thumb at his chest. "Oi! I'd like t'see ya do better! Hey, new guy, play with us when you're done eatin', we could use a bit of gil to pad the pot~" Gringrin! Of course, the Elvaan doesn't seem to much like the idea of 'robbing' a new arrival. He'd been slowly picking up the cards when Star jumped up and knocked a few around, his hand stilling on the bartop as he chides quietly, barely able to be heard even at your minimal range. "It is not necessary to prove yourself against a new arrival. The cards?" Star 'oh's and leans down to scoop up the ones he kicked around, stacking them with the rest, then handing them to the Elvaan with a grumbled apology.

Hey, MUSH admins are just people like you and me! Well, like me at least. :)

And I've RP'd with you, albeit in a previous decade, your RP does not suck. Maybe a little off of center at times, but that's okay, it's _boring_ that's the killer.

My shock did make me snicker. I was a headwiz, and I'm far from normal, so it really shouldn't surprise me that others could be!

And thanks! On one level I know my RP isn't sucky, but sometimes I still worry anyway. :P
