I can has wuf! (WoW, FFXI, RP)
Mar. 25th, 2009 10:32 pmI'm especially happy for WoW tonight. IC stuff with Thistle was eating my brain all day, and WoW killed my brain, so it worked out well!
WoW: I CAN HAZ WUF! Yay! I may still be ugly as hell, but at least I ride something cool now! And I lope instead of lumber! I love it! Yay!
Also, having hit 60, my pet grew! Wait... ghosts can grow?!
Over the weekend, while trying to low level quest, this darned elite dragon kept circling me. I really, really wanted to kill him, but he was three levels higher than me. Nai warned me off him. :P
I guess now I'm back to high level questing for XP. If I could have one wish in WoW, it would be for me to lose my stress over dying. It Does Not Matter In WoW! Yet in situations that may kill me, I sit all tensed, hardly breathing, all but shaking I'm so clenched up. It annoys the hell out of me -- it's not relaxing!
And unrelated to that, whenever someone needs signatures to start a guild, I help them out and leave the guild right after. Because the last guild I signed up for seemed dead, I never bothered to leave. Suddenly today they started RPing! It was actually sort of fun.
FFXI: We saw an odd bug in Dynamis Windy last night. I hadn't heard of this happening since it did years ago. Yag died, stood up, called a crow, fell back over dead, crow remained. Repeat that every 20 seconds or so all night.
RP: Maybe I'll write about this tomorrow instead... not sure I can do it justice as it's bedtime already tonight. Plus, happily, my head isn't in the same place it was earlier.
Yesterday I had a little RP scene with Squall. A phone call, I thought it'd just be a "throw away scene" (fluff, time killer, nothing important happening). Turns out Thistle's character totally changed. (Basic theme of the MUX is people die or are just plucked out of their FF world and tossed onto this new one together, no idea how or why they've been brought there.) All his time on this world, his one and only single goal was to get back home and apologize to the other Corsairs (he did something really bad, though it wasn't by his own choice). He'd be killed if he went back (they killed him, that's how he got on the world to begin with), but his death would have been worth the chance to apologize (and, if he was very lucky, to say goodbye to his lover and explain what happened before they re-killed him). After the call he finally not just accepted but embraced that this was his crew and his life now, and that even if given the choice, he wouldn't give up his life to go home and apologize.
He's been on the MUX almost a year now. To give up the goal that drove him for so long... it's just hard to wrap my brain around OOCly. (Which is odd. He ICly accepts it fully and totally, how can I OOCly have problems doing so?)
Also, for the first time ever, I've come up with a themesong for him. Or rather, it hit me. MU*s always want you to list a song for your characters, I've never done it before now... Carry on my Wayward son (by Kansas).
{Refrain
Carry on my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more
I like the whole "wayward son" idea for Thistle. A Corsair, a Corsair who wanted to be nothing but loyal, who ended up with an Immortal friend/lover. Brainwashed and used by the Immortals ("used" in just about every sense of the word!) -- so very lost.
It also applies in that he was a knight, so very interested in honor and rules and protecting people, who became a Corsair -- a group of pirates who steal to live and harm innocent people (to survive).
"There'll be peace when you are done" feels like now, this very day. Thistle has finally accepted that his old life is done. He doesn't have to "cry" anymore (not actually cry, but he's been deeply sad/hurt/mourning since he arrived).
Once I rose above the noise and confusion
Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion
I was soaring ever higher
But I flew too high
"Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion" will/could be his future. He was brainwashed. Confusion/illusion.
Though my eyes could see I still was a blind man
Though my mind could think I still was a mad man
I hear the voices when I'm dreaming
I can hear them say
Voices in his head/man man, more references to his brainwashing.
I like the idea of "blind man" as well, there's so much he doesn't know (about his past, his lack of reading skills, his lack of any modern technological knowledge while being crew on a high tech airship...), he really is a "blind man" and a "mad man".
{Refrain
Masquerading as a man with a reason
My charade is the event of the season
And if I claim to be a wise man, well
It surely means that I don't know
The saddest part. :/ "Masquerading as a man with a reason" = when he was "masked" (mentally) and waiting to kill his captain (Qultada). "My charade is the event of the season" D: D: D: I'm sure it was. An outsider accepted into the Corsairs (such a rare event!) and he turns around and tries to assassinate his captain. It depresses me just remembering it.
On a stormy sea of moving emotion
Tossed about I'm like a ship on the ocean
I set a course for winds of fortune
But I hear the voices say
Sea! Storm! Ocean! Ship! Yay Corsair! And less literal: Tossed about like a ship on the ocean -- he was brought to the world by something, no control of his own. Heck, so much of his life has been out of his control...
{Refrain
No!
Carry on, you will always remember
Carry on, nothing equals the splendor
The center lights around your vanity
But surely heaven waits for you
If this part were real, Thistle would be happy about it. "But surely heaven waits for you" He doesn't believe there's a chance he'd go to heaven, but he's religious and really, really, wishes he would be able to. I also like the first two lines -- Thistle will always remember his past with the Corsairs, and it was a "splendor"...
Carry on my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry (don't you cry no more)
This just really feels like what Thistle needs. He's always believed the world he landed on is some form of an afterlife. Maybe in a way it sort of is. He just needs to "carry on" and accept his new life, live it well. Hopefully there will be peace once he's done, and he'll get to rest without any more sadness...

Date: 2009-03-26 08:27 am (UTC)Kansas is the bomb diggity. Do you know their song "Dust in the Wind"? I would be amazed if you did not fall in love after your first listen. It's so sad, I think it'll click with you.

Date: 2009-03-26 04:16 pm (UTC)And *whimper* yes! I know Dust in the Wind all too well. If I'm not careful it can make me cry just by listening to it! Amazing, amazing song.

Date: 2009-03-28 06:31 pm (UTC)Oh, are you still on Feathermoon? I had completely forgotten that you and I might be on the same server, unless you rerolled! If so, what's this guild? Is it "Bromantic Makeout Party", like the warrior I saw in Dalaran today? Woo RP server! ;)

Date: 2009-03-28 07:50 pm (UTC)If you need a guild, they want more folks!
Edit: Wait, duh. Feathermoon was the server you've always been on, so you wouldn't need a guild. I forgot I picked the server when I first started because it's where you were. :P

Date: 2009-03-26 01:34 pm (UTC)I still get a little tense like that as well. It's a holdover from FFXI where dying was DOUBLEPLUSUNGOOD. After a while you get used to it. Trying doing battleground PvP. You might hate it but it'll get you used to dying a lot ;)
Besides, Hunters can't die. They just run away, Feign Death and wait for their pet to die and the monster to go away. :P

Date: 2009-03-26 04:17 pm (UTC)Exactly. And drat! I meant to try that AV battleground before I leveled up. Since it groups people by 10s levels, me being 59.5 probably would have been perfect.

Ha! Yes, when FD is cooled it saves my bacon. :D I do dislike letting my pet die, but better him than me. *cough*

Date: 2009-03-26 04:20 pm (UTC)Last night, going back to high level quests for XP, I realized I had been enjoying the low level ones since there was zero risk of death.

Date: 2009-03-27 02:41 am (UTC)That'll probably be the worst rep grind you ever do; When you get epic flying skill, you may want a Netherwing mount (They're much better looking than those silly lion things), but you will be able to get the rep in 2 weeks or less (depending on how many eggs you find) just by doing daily quests.

Date: 2009-03-27 04:30 pm (UTC)And yay, can't wait to go for my flying mount! Just need, um, lots more levels still!

Date: 2009-03-29 03:52 am (UTC)It's an awesome song. It's also in Rock Band 2, so I can have superstar guitarist Cydori play it for you. ^_~
I love picking theme songs for my RP characters, although the tricky part was when people wanted them at the beginning of the game when I didn't quite have a feel for all of my characters' personalities yet. Some of them ended up changing, and in one case a friend found a song that we both thought fit a lot better so I immediately changed it over. Since said friend's character was responsible for a bit of a personality shift in mine, it worked out well. ^^ (They're the pair in the icon.) It ended up being my most favorite campaign ever, which was good because I had so much fun with it, but bad because all other ones since then have been a bit disappointing. ^^; Not bad by any means, but not quite as good as that one.
