In reverse order!

You thought SE was ban-happy? How about this: The Neopets staff has said outright, in black and white, totally clear terms, that they will ban people for using ctrl-V. That's right! The Windows shortcut for paste is considered a cheat! (Because it gives you an advantage over people who type things out.) Ha ha ha ha.

Supernatural: No one who reads my LJ should be surprised when I say I have no issues with slash. Heck, I'm a big fan! However, incest is a whole different kettle of fish, and because of that I've avoided Supernatural for a long time. Turns out that was a false worry in this case -- barely ten minutes into the first ep I'm getting slash vibes, and I'm liking it. Ha ha ha. I have no idea how that works, because seriously, incest squicks me, but there's such a connection between these two! Very odd, but cool.

That's an idiotic reason for banning. ....I use ctrl-V all the time.

Isn't it? It's not like everyone can't use ctrl-v if they wanted to!

If it helps...

...I've heard some of the slashiness of Supernatural is because the actors look NOTHING ALIKE. Brothers? Right. Sorry, can't buy it.

Also? The actors are housemates RL, at least as of this season. I doubt they were back then, but obviously they like each other! And I think that shines through their work.

Ha ha, yeah, I did notice that they really don't look like brothers at all. I'm sure there are tons of fics out there about one being adopted or something like that -- anything to make it "okay".

but obviously they like each other! And I think that shines through their work.

Very much so. It's funny how you can pick up when there's a connection like that. It's just how the two look at each other, when their eyes meet, times like that.

Yes, exactly. :)

Two more things:

I noticed your tag on this is 'neopets supernatural' (no comma). Although Supernatural neopets did make me giggle. :)

After I commented the first time, I read a post on my friends list linking to another post about LA Con this past weekend--and a talk with one of the recurring actors in the current season (who I am not going to name so as not to spoil). He brought up the concept of slash during the talk, and then, at another question, mentioned he was fascinated by fandom and wished he could explore it "more in depth in a way that wouldn't get him molested." And had even read a slash fic (!!!)

Oh drat! Thanks for catching that. My usual mistake is to use semicolons instead of commas -- no commas is a new one!

and wished he could explore it "more in depth in a way that wouldn't get him molested."

Ha ha! :D

Oh wow, that's cool!

Neopets, serious business. I should tell my sister, she actually still messes around on that site XD

Ha ha, you should! You wouldn't want her to get banned. :P

I used to play the games on the site now and then as time killers, and I never unfriended the LJ comm, so that's how I learned about this.

Wait... can they even tell when someone is pasting text? Are they going to start banning people who simply have a very high typing speed? What about the people who right-click and choose 'paste' from the pop-up menu? They're not actually using ctrl-v. :P

::has never played NeoPets and doesn't understand the significance of fast typing in the game::

No clue if they can actually tell if someone's pasting text, or if they're using ctrl-v as opposed to right-clicking. But I have played Neopets, and I don't get the significance of fast typing in the game; the only thing I can actually think of that's typing-focused is the forums, and maybe the auctions.

And even the auctions are more click-centric than type-centric.

Shop Wizard... copy/paste the name of what you're looking for, you might just get something more affordable than someone who takes the time to type out the item name. *shrugs*

Ah, that's a good point, even better than the one the Neopet people gave. The submitted question:

I saw someone post, "It is also handy to have the price on your ctrl + v." I was confused as to whether this was allowed or not.

The answer was that it's against the rules and they have already caught people doing it. (I'd hope so, since the site is, what, eight years old? Older?)

11, wow. Imagine all the people who have been ctrl-v'ing!

The example I saw on the LJ comm was when people want to buy something from a shopkeep and they need to enter the price they're willing to pay. 100, 450, 2000, whatever.

Oh nos! A second or two saved! ...and that's not counting the fact that you have to have, what, a list of numbers in a file?, find the right number, and copy it before you can paste it?

Wait... can they even tell when someone is pasting text?

That was my first question as well, but someone pointed out that websites can log every keystroke made on their site. (I had known that but guess I forgot.)

::has never played NeoPets and doesn't understand the significance of fast typing in the game::

As far as I know, there isn't one. Players can buy stuff from their store with fake-money and you have to type in the amount you want to pay. "250", "1000", whatever. So I guess you could somehow save... a second or two? *confused*

I wonder what their stance on mouse-pasting* is.

*In Linux, you can highlight anything in any window and paste it by clicking with the middle button/mouse wheel--no need for ctrl+c, let alone ctrl+v. This is called mouse-pasting. I think it keeps it in a separate clipboard from the ctrl+c/ctrl+v one. I know it'll paste the last highlighted block of text, whether or not it is still highlighted at paste time.

Ha ha, I'd be surprised if they knew what Linux is!
