Dragon Ops by Mari Mancusi. Many years ago, long before it was overused, the "trapped in a MMO video game" idea was kind of fun. And then it was done again, and again, and again.
There was nothing new in this book. The beginning "borrowed" some ideas from Jurassic Park, so I thought a Jurassic Park/"trapped in a video game" crossover idea would be fun, but nope. The story dropped all Jurassic Park ideas early on, until the "shocking" twist at the end (which was "borrowed" from Jurassic Park, too).
I should have DNFed this book. I wish I had. I can't name one thing I liked about it, I just kept hoping it would get better.
DNF 13) Unlegendary Dragon: The Magical Kids of Lore by R.L. Ullman. I'd say I was too old for this book, it wasn't meant for me, but the blurb about it says "a hilarious, action-packed series that will captivate kids 8-12, reluctant readers, and adults".
1) It wasn't hilarious. It wasn't the least bit funny or amusing.
2) It wasn't action-packed, unless a kid going to a new school counts as action.
3) It wasn't good for adults. The plot clues were way way way too obvious.
DNFed it at 30%.
