Well, apparently that wire was made of braided razors instead of braided steel. I mean, I wouldn't want to climb down it with bare hands and your gloves would probably end up a little ripped and torn but if it's that or sitting in a chair in the cold for an undetermined amount of time...well ya.
As for cat, she was built like a tank. Jumping off shit (like the house for example) and falling off stuff all the time. Although when she got older and finally did injure herself once (twisted her leg or something) she stopped jumping off things or getting into positions where she would fall.
