I just finished Curse of Chalion (Best Book EVER, seriously!), and I went to start the next one, Paladin of Souls, but I've been thwarted by my Kindle app. As an "ebook extra", there's a glossary of terms, characters, places, all that. That's fine and dandy, I don't need it but I can ignore it.

Problem is, every time one of the terms from the glossary appear in the book, it's a blue underlined link. Mind you, all the main characters' names, all the major places, all that is in the glossary, so I have a blue link in almost every sentence. It's amazingly distracting.

Is there a way to turn that off? home (in Kindle) -> info -> settings has only three options listed, and none relate to this.

Did you try turning off the ebook extras entirely? Shelfari.com--Kindle's source for the extras--says:

You can access Book Extras anytime while you’re reading a book to enhance the reading experience. From the “Go To” menu, select “Book Extras”.

If messing around with that doesn't work, you could try poking around there and asking the forums.

Yeah, that leads me to the extras themselves, but there's no option to turn them off. I'll check those forums, thanks! My googling didn't lead to them.

I hope you can solve the problem! Paladin of Souls should not be adulterated. :<

So glad you loved Chalion as much as I do! <3 <3 <3

Totally! I really, really want to start the next one, but I need to solve this issue first. Eeee!

I adored Chalion! It's one of the few books I owned as a hardcover then paid for happily as a Kindle edition because I wanted to be able to reread it at any moment in my travels. Paladin of Souls was a worthy follow-up, too!

Good to hear! I haven't solved the hypertext issue, but I'm going to try to just ignore it. I can't keep delaying starting it!

I've got nothing. It doesn't help that I know basically nothing about ebook formatting, terminology, or hardware so my searches are probably a little too wide.

Since google has failed it's time to move onto the next step of pro-level trouble shooting! Go through every menu there is and look for something that seems remotely like what you want, and try that.

Info certainly seems wrong, I would image that's more to do with like, info about the book or the kindle itself. I wish I had a kindle or could see all of the UI/options, then I could probably figure it out.

I've been speaking to people on a couple different forums, and it seems there's no way to turn this off. Grrr. Oh well, at least it's not every book.

I wish I had a kindle or could see all of the UI/options, then I could probably figure it out.

It might be surprising, but there are very few options at all. Two menus, basically, each with 3-4 options. It's really very simple/easy.

Ya I was thinking it might not be possible since the searches failed. Hell, I couldn't even find anyone (other then you) asking how to turn them off. I guess no one else even wants to! But it's still surprising that they would include an extra without the ability to turn it off, that should have been obvious!

Yeah, I was surprised how little I could find on Google. I even looked through ten pages on Amazon of comments on the book, but no one else mentioned the issue.

I checked a few other books I had downloaded to see if they had the same problem (in case I turned some setting on by mistake), but this seems to be the only one.

You should complain. If nothing else they might be able to tell you how to turn it off XD

Yes! I actually meant to do that. Doing it now before I forget again...

Can't help you with the Kindle app as I can barely work mine on the iPhone, but I loved Curse of Chalion and Paladin of Souls. Unfortunately, I found Hallowed Hunt to be very disappointing and not well linked to the other two.

I love Bujold! She's my favorite author.

if you have iPhone/iPod, you should try out Stanza. Uses standard EPUB format, and its easy enough to find torrents out there. Plus if you have a massive ebook library (like me, 300+ books) you can set up stanza to read from Calibre server.

Note: I do not condone pirating books. Recently I got torrents of books I really liked. Then sent the author cash, saying I didn't really want to fund his publisher but I liked his work.

Aww, that's too bad about the third book! At least I can enjoy Paladin before I get to it.

I love her so much, too! I can't wait to read more of her stuff.
