Oh America, how you continue to scare me. 50% of people think it should be LAW that a woman take her husband's last name when they marry. I have zero issue with a woman taking a man's name by choice, or a man taking a woman's, or one man taking another's, or both coming up with some spiffy new last name, but the law requiring that the woman take the man's? Sigh.

And speaking of scary:

WTF. Seriously, WTF? I thought she was drinking just to make him talk. I thought she was leading on just to try to get information out of him. BUT SHE FUCKED HIM, WHAT THE FUCK! Holy cow, is she so screwed... and I mean the other way. She is so damned messed up, between this and her mental problem, she so very much doesn't belong on this job, no matter how good she is at it (and I do think she's excellent at it). Oh, and let's not forget, she gave him classified information in the middle of a bar parking lot. ARG

Brody though... scam the lie detector much? So we're back to square one with him, on the knife issue.

I'm not one for "new age" medicine, herbs and potions and the like, but sometimes a problem goes on long enough and you hate going to a doctor so much that you're willing to try other things. I'm sick with "stomach issues" two days out of three. This has been going on for months if not years. It's bad enough at home, but having it happen at work is a real problem. Plus anything like movies, road trips, anything where I can't run home at quick notice just isn't a good idea. Some nights even RP is a problem, because I hate having to go AFK multiple times during a scene. So, doing online research, I read about peppermint oil. Some people have great success with it.

I bought a bottle of oil caplets ($10...), but it's a pain in the butt to use. You have to take it 30-60 minutes before a meal, three times a day. I never know when I'm going to eat! But it may be a moot point.

The instructions say if you get heartburn, you should stop taking it. It gave it to me, alas. It's only mild, but the lower inside of my throat and upper chest feels hot and burning, too. Peppermint burps are a big side effect, though those are pretty darned positive (and seriously strong!). Oh well! I don't usually drink tea, but I might try a cup of peppermint tea instead.

...oh LJ, why did autocomplete on tag names suddenly stop working? Sigh.

All I know is if I get married, there is no last name change coming. I will dig my heels in and go into 8 year old mode, my last name is too awesome to give up.

I like the "new age" (IE: Old remedies...) stuff. I wouldn't say it's an alternative to "real" medicine, would actually say to go try that stuff first, but for the most part I hear positive things from "new age" medicine when it's used correctly. Peppermint burps sound very convenient too. Who needs breath mints when you burp peppermint?

I fully support your right to keep your own last night if you want!

Who needs breath mints when you burp peppermint?

That should so be a selling point!

When I married my ex husband, I did not take his name. If I ever get married again, I will not take his name either. And if a law tells me I have to? I will not get married. :>

Agreed. I don't intend to ever get married, but if I do I'm 100% keeping my own name. I don't like what taking the man's name represents. I'm not property! I'm NOT lesser than him! Why does the woman have to take the man's name? Why doesn't the man take the woman's? Wouldn't it make weddings more interesting if they did a coin toss to see which last name they both used?

I think you raise an interesting idea. Perhaps there should be like some sort of challenge associated with the last names. I'm not sure what it would be, first thing that comes to mind is like thunderdome or a Most Extreme Elimination Challenge type event where the winner gets to keep their last name.

Ha! I'm liking this idea more and more. Could be something random, say five challenges (running race, trivia, whatever), pick one at random. Winner's last name is the couple's name!

Or you could do like a bunch of tests. Like, test of strength, test of wisdom, test of intelligence, test of speed, test of fashion sense, so on. Whoever wins the most wins!

OR! Have the families/friends of the 2 people getting married face each other in some sort of team game. Like Soccer or Football or dodgeball (yes). Winning team gets to chose, each person getting married is Captain on their own team. It's like a new family bonding experience!

hmm, I wonder if you might have some type of intolerance, like dairy. If so taking something like lactaid might help... might be worth trying out for a few days.

I used to get "issues" all the time, and since going on a very low-carb diet, I don't seem to get them any more. Weird.

Also, I have two friends who both took hyphenated last names after they were married. So, they each changed and took a new name and now they have the same last name. Interestingly, his name was "Dana" so Mr. Dana Hyphenated-Lastname always has people calling for him and expecting him to be a woman.

Thiiiiiiistle... even if you hate doctors, two days out of three for months to years is a problem that NEEDS a doctor! Hon, really, if you're lucky it'll be something that can be fixed really quickly. :(

What she said. I wouldn't bother with trying peppermint tea. Peppermint is a muscle relaxer which is why you burp more, but also why you get heartburn (the valve keeping the opening to your stomach closed to contain the evil acid isn't as tight a seal anymore).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crohn%27s_disease perhaps? You should see a doctor to find out. :C

I sincerely hope what Thistle has isn't Crohn's. Crohn's is a damn miserable disorder, with sufferers quickly degenerating to complete misery. Lifespan usually isn't good, as repeated surgeries remove more and more of the digestive tract.

Without more detailed symptoms I couldn't begin to guess at a proper diagnosis, but even then I'm just a genius and not a medical professional (though the book-learning is similar). I definitely would advise consulting a doctor, particularly a GI specialist (seriously, don't trust a GP or Internal Med with this).

I've seen what Crohn's can do, yeah. :/ But I know its symptoms, so I get worried now when I see anything like it in others. Could just be Irritabel Bowel Syndrome.

Yeah, I had thought about it, but I cut out food types one by one (including a 'no food at all' period), and still got sick.

Huh, I'm glad they cleared up for you!

I don't want peppermint anything ever again. It took more than 12 hours for the burps to stop! Arg! Nasty.

And yeah, maybe next time I go I'll mention it...

While I'm no doctor myself, I suspect this might be something like IBS, in which case the only thing to do is deal with the symptoms, it can't be cured. Of course, that 'I'm no doctor' part is kind of important. I'll probably mention it next time I go.

Eeek, I hope not! That sounds pretty darned bad (worse than I have, I think).

IBS is more along the lines of what I suspect. (Which is semi-why I haven't mentioned it to my doctor, since there's no cure and all anyone can do is what I'm doing now.)

Well, IBS shares symptoms with a heck of a lot of bugs and conditions that are more treatable, and IBS itself has a bunch of possible alleviating treatments. *hugs* Do please mention it to your doc, chronic pain is no fun and there are a bunch of things they can do to try to help.

Could also be coeliac, or a few different bugs. Good luck!

Germs, hon. :) Single-celled organisms, not icky icky THINGS. Apparently there are a couple of (extremely) long-lasting bacterial infections that mimic IBS and can be cured with the right antibiotic, and also just an over-population of normal gut flora can do the same.
