Avengers, fandom, TV, health

A mishmash of somewhat related stuff.
So sad that Game of Thrones is done for another season! And worse yet, next week Korra is over for the season. D: D: My two main TV shows! Weeds returns July 1st, but that's a half-hour and story-light. Homeland returns in September, but that's forever away.
I'm being strongly nibbled on by the Avengers fandom. Usually I'd say I was eaten by it, but I don't feel the connection I had with my previous fandoms. This is odd, as I've been reading Avengers fics nonstop for nearly a week now.
A question: Why in fics is Clint/Hawkeye so disliked by the other Avengers? Is it something from the comics or some "fandom canon" thing? It seems really odd.
It's interesting how much characterization varies from fic to fic. I don't mean this marks a bad fic or bad writing, I think it's more that different people see the characters so differently. (Or, hm, might be comic book canon vs movie canon...)
I've only seen Thor and the Avengers once each, so I feel kind of weak in canon. My mental "correct" version of these characters is formed by the good fics I read. I never would have thought that Loki/Steve would be my pairing of choice. I love Tony to death, but something about Loki/Steve is just so touching and sweet and longing and eeee. Heck, I'm surprised how much I like Steve in general! I usually run screaming from nice guy/good guy characters.
I really should have kept a better list of the fics I like, so I could make a rec post. Everything I've read so far by
teh_helenables would be on it, but especially Tell me the story of how you ended up here. Loki/Steve, though gen. It's so sweet and I love Loki so!
Health: It's a darned good thing my coughing has mostly stopped, because I'm leaning more and more towards my rib being fractured instead of it being a pulled muscle. I got almost no sleep last night because it hurt so much. The pain has expanded, it now wraps around from the front of my ribs to the back. Sitting/standing it's okay, but when I'm in bed it's horrible. I picked up over the counter painkillers at lunchtime, and happily they take the edge off the pain. I hope that'll be enough to let me sleep.

Date: 2012-06-11 10:43 pm (UTC)And I totally understand about the fandoms...Once Upon a Time first season ended over a month ago, and I have yet to get into any other fandom atm. Harry Potter fanfiction was kind of pulling me back, but I always end up going back there when I am not actively looking for something else. =P

Date: 2012-06-12 04:02 am (UTC)Harry Potter was like that for me for a long time, but I think I finally broke my last connections to it. :/ I read a HP fic maybe once a year now. I miss it sometimes, but it's nice that a lot of the Avenger fic writers are folks I know from HP circles.

Date: 2012-06-12 06:47 am (UTC)Of course I also have to thank you for the fanfic recommendations. I have reading to do for months! I do admit that I am just getting into the comicverse and I have noticed that some of these fanfics actually predate the Avengers film, so it may have carried over from there. I haven't read enough Hawkeye stuff yet to know exactly why, though he seems to have something of an attitude. I do love him though, even though we technically see little of his character. He snarked a little at Coulson though in Thor so that was some hint, perhaps. There may also be some author bias bleeding through. I love Clint personally, but I know some people don't especially as he's not as engaging to write as Tony or Thor might be (Bruce has a similar issue at times, I've noticed). Like I got a little bit of Coulson/Clint in one fic that popped up like WOW I NEVER EVER THOUGHT OF IT. But then it makes some sense and it's interesting. There's just so, so much ground to cover with a team of characters this size. I'm sure he gets more love when he's more central. XD
Also EVERYONE LOVES STEVE. YOU CAN'T NOT LOVE STEVE. I tend to fall for the villains and the misunderstood (hence, Loki love) but Steve is a character that I just love to death. I also run from the super good guys too, but he is ADORABLE. It may be a lot to do with the fact that he's a stranger in this big wide world of crazy things and like.. what doooo. (And now I want to make a fondue joke XD). But it's really cute! And his portrayal in the films really makes him a great character. Like if everyone read from the Steve Rogers book of how to treat your fellow man the world would be a beautiful place. Like.. he's perfect but he's so kind and nice and humble and warm and I LOVE HIM. I think that's why the Loki/Steve pairing is so nice. I love pairings that seem so at odds with each other. Loki has his guarded front and his wit and generally badassery and then there's Steve, like his opposite in every way (though he too possess notable badassery). I didn't think I would like it but that fic was so sweet I almost shed a tear at the end. Mostly because my Loki feels are so strong that I can't help but love the good Steve brings out in him. X3
I shamelessly enjoy Thorki/Thunderfrost as well. Okay. I've said it in public. XD
Steve/Tony has been my OTP for the longest but the Avengers film really through my ships into a tizzy. I'm glad there's so much fic out there to satisfy all the cute little "what if's". XD

Date: 2012-06-12 01:09 pm (UTC)I think you're right about the comicverse part. I want to start reading it, but TIME. Arg! My job needs to start paying me to do my own personal reading. :P

I thought I would as well, but so far I've read no fic based on that pairing, so I've been distracted. I could totally see it working though!
Also: Thunderfrost is a great pairing name. :D
I'm glad it's not just me who fell for Steve! And you're right, that's what makes the pairing interesting to me. (I was a Harry/Snape person, too.) I love that dynamic!

Date: 2012-06-12 08:50 am (UTC)It's not that the rest of the Avengers dislike Hawkeye, it's that they are somewhat uncomfortable around him. Among other things, Hawkeye led his own team for awhile, so Hawkeye's mere presence throws the power dynamic slightly out of whack. Other than the Big Three, he really ought to be the next in line, but I am not sure if the rest of the team sees it that way.
Also, Hawkeye has a tendency of keeping, um, interesting company. He led the Thunderbolts—a group of (possibly) reformed villains—in part because his own past was a bit on the colorful side. And in doing so he was also romantically involved with the morally ambiguous Moonstone. So maybe it's the company he keeps.
Lastly, do yourself a favor and go see a doctor if you need painkillers to get through the day (or night). It's usually a bad sign if you have to rely on painkillers.

Date: 2012-06-13 05:02 am (UTC)As far as fan fics go, I suppose they can do whatever they want. Alternate universes is a well-established fact in the marvel universe. Not to mention marvel writers often disagree amongst themselves.

Heh! I've been getting that feeling, yeah...
