thistlechaser: (Girl with flowers)

While I was away for ten days, I was worried my plants would die. I bought a self-watering system, but it was basically hoses and water bottles, so I worried I'd come home to dead plants.

Instead my plants sent me a message: STAY AWAY! They grew a ton while I was gone, so big and thick.

Everything got so big! On the far left are the sunflowers (already starting to bloom but not even two feet tall yet -- odd!), close up in the round pot is the thyme (which originally looked like these little sicky sprouts), in the back is basil and chives and parsley -- all of them so lush!, and on the far right is some kind of flower (the empty pot next to it never had anything in it).

Oddly, my basil seedlings all died a fast, harsh death, but the ones I grew from a seed are growing like weeds.

The flowers all look a little ratty (I think something's eating them), but the herbs are amazing. I really have to figure out something to do with it all.

And this will be an even less organized post than I usually make, because OH MY GOD EEE is this the best show on TV ever or the best show on TV ever?

They took Lin Beifong's bending away! DDDDDDDDDDDDD: I swear, that made my chest hurt in RL. She was so strong and a badass and amazing at bending and gah! (Though I also hope they don't figure out how to return bending to people, it would feel cheap to me, plus having to learn to live without bending would make for an interesting storyline.)

And of course there's ZUKO General Iroh! While the voice didn't seem to really fit the character's age/size/shape, I DON'T CARE! OH MY GOD, ZUKO'S voice back! EEEEE!

I love Tenzin so very, very, very much. Perfect father or perfect father?

The one small part of the ep I didn't like was the whole love triangle thing. Shape up or ship out, Mako. I have zero interest in Asami, too.

So! Poll time!

Liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin!

I never watched the original series so I have no feelings toward the new character, but Lin is definitely one of my favorites and the ending there was a complete "oh shit" moment. I have no idea what I want to happen to her after this. It's a struggle between a desire for her return to glory and for the story to maintain the fact that sometimes Bad Shit Happens and there's nothing you can do about it.

You should watch the original series! SO GOOD!

Poor Lin, I can't wait until we know! ...likely next season. :/

This will contain spoilers, don't read if you don't want spoilers.

I loved every part where Tenzin actually fought. I always felt one of the things we missed out on was seeing advanced Air Bending since Aang was so young and, although powerful, didn't have much experience and really polished moves. Watching him take on those Equallist Window Washers (evil day job for sure) and then the mechs was just like OH MY GOD!

I had a big smile on my face when Mako reflected the lightning back at the mech and shorted it out. It made sense that since we've seen him bend lightning before that he would be more resilient when it comes to being electrocuted (at least when he can see it coming) and can reflect it back. Although I agree that he needs to get his act together and just admit he loves Korra so they can stop with the love triangle stuff.

On the Lin stuff I don't know if they will have a way to bring bending back but just based on what I remember from Last Airbender if I had to guess to take away their bending Amon seems to be blocking their Third Eye Chakra (thanks wikipedia!) which is why they can't bend after he does it. Like when Aang was trying to unblock his one chakra so he could get into the avatar state again in the Air Temple. I don't know if they could just unblock it (similar to Aang by just hitting the pressure point again?) but maybe people could unblock it themselves after a bunch of work. Sort of give the hope of people getting their bending back without it being instant and they would have to learn to bend all over again or something. But if Deus Ex Turtlina shows up again and conveniently lets Korra learn how to give people bending I will be disappointed.

But Lin jumped up to almost the top of my favourite characters list with that episode. Fighting to protect everyone then sacrificing herself to let Tenzin and his family get away and then standing by her morals and not giving into Amon at the end was just amazing.

I'm looking foward to seeing Iroh II fight! I mean, sure Mako can fire bend but we're talking about the Fire Lords son here! I wonder if he will have blue fire like his Aunt did...hmmmm I guess that would depend on how much he fights Kora/Mako since I think the only reason Azula had blue fire was so when she fought people you could tell which person was in control of which fire so everything would just be a giant mess of burnination visually.

Almost forgot! I don't think the poll has an answer which can accurately display how amazing this show has become.

Supposedly Iroh II is Zuko's grandson and Tenzin is his Uncle because his mother is Zuko/Mai's daughter and his father is Aang/Katara's oldest son? According to somebody who read some Wiki anyway.

I have no idea if it's true though, I suppose we'll find out next episode.

I could be possible, it's hard to tell how old he is (especially with the voice) but that would make sense.

You know I was thinking about it but that would make him Tenzin's cousin...people on Tumblr were going on about him being his nephew...I don't know haha.

He does seem a bit on the young side to be Zuko's son...but also I am not sure why Zuko's child would name their child Iroh, since I don't know if they even would have met him...

And yeah...his voice sounds very young for his face haha...I thought so even for Zuko really...and he was what, 16?

Ahh no I am stupid, he would be his nephew haha. I shouldn't comment right when I wake up.

I guess it would depend on how soon after the end of Last Airbender Zuko had kids. I mean, I figured he'd spend a bunch of time looking for his Mom first (like the end of that series suggested) and then sort of have some time getting more involved with Mai and then have kids. I guess if he had kids only a couple years after end of Airbender (say like, late teens, early 20's) then his son would have had plenty of time to interact with Iroh and have an impression on him. Personally unless the show itself tells me otherwise I'm just going to live in my little version of reality:

"Iroh II is actually about the same age as Tenzin (little younger, just the clean shaving makes him look much younger) and was named after his uncle since he was born shortly after Iroh died in a horrible tea-based tragedy."

But ya, it's most likely he's his grandson because even with looking for his mother and all the stuff he did with the Earth Nation for peace and then Republic City even if he waited until he was like 40 to have kids then Iroh II would have to be like 40 by now and he doesn't even look that old if we discount the voice. Possible it's his son, just very unlikely.

I agree with everything you wrote! It was so great to see Tenzin fighting (real air bending! Eeee!), and I love him so very much. Such a wonderful character!

You know, I hadn't thought about the Mako/lightning connection. I missed the foreshadowing! Good catch. :D I did raise my eyes that he could handle it, but this is the perfect answer.

I can sort of see them fixing it that way, but I hope not. I like it when bad things happen to characters and you get to see how they cope.

So much love for Lin. Grumpy, hardassed woman, but willing to sacrifice herself for the good of others. *sniffle*

Next week's ep is going to be SO GOOD. I can't wait. :D

The lightning thing was like a "Oh ya, right, lightning" moment for me because I thought I remembered him firing lightning in the episode where they all got arrested. Plus didn't he work at a power plant before? That was like "HE USES LIGHTNING PEOPLE!" all over it but apparently it didn't click for us. Plus it's nice to see someone counter as opposed to *zap* *downed* all the time.

I can definitely see them doing something like that with the bending being taken away but I agree I'd rather see at the end of the series (or at the end of this arc, whatever) that Lin is reinstated as police chief but she is still just this hardass who no one will mess with even though she doesn't have her bending.

Plus didn't he work at a power plant before?

Yep, exactly. Seemed a pointless scene at the time, but nope!

Plus it's nice to see someone counter as opposed to *zap* *downed* all the time.

Yes. Same with them having one of those gloves.

that Lin is reinstated as police chief but she is still just this hardass who no one will mess with even though she doesn't have her bending.

For sure! You know she'd be able to pull it off, no matter how much it hurt her inside.

Makes me wonder what other stuff we might have missed that was subtle hints! Only one thing to do to be sure, go rewatch all the episodes! This is what I do, make "sacrifices" for the greater good!

I look at the loss of bending mostly by looking at that pro-bender and the criminals who lost their bending. When they lost it they changed drastically because they defined themselves by their bending. Ya losing it would be destructive to anyone but if you are more then just your bending you will be able to move on. The bending doesn't make the Beifong, the Beifong makes the bending!

Yes! Soon I shall do the same thing. It'll be nice to watch the whole season in a couple of days.

I was looking at it more like losing a leg or losing your eyesight -- a sudden new, big handicap. How different your day to day life might be! Firebenders would have to light a stove to heat up their tea, waterbenders would need to haul buckets of water and buy a mop to clean their floors. All the little things they're used to doing through bending. So a more mature character like Beifong will be able to cope, but some criminal off the street might just give up on life.

I really enjoyed this episode, the last few have been kind of lukewarm with me. Bolin has been really lamesauce for me even though in the beginning I LOVED him. I still do, but I haven't really felt anything for him either way in these episodes.

Lin was amazing this episode, she made me almost tear up quite a few times (a feat for me).

Loved seeing Tenzin's kids' fighting, they were amazing. Especially Meelo's fart bending (yes, I am 5).

Mako is really pissing me off, I don't mind Asami so much. I think the love triangle thing is really forced and unnecessary. It just pisses me off that Asami told Mako what she knew/felt and then Mako still has his hands all over Korra...so rude.

I never really much liked Bolin. He grew on me for a short time, but now he's back to meh. (And that red panda of his, it just suddenly appears and then vanishes! Where was it during the fighting, hidden in his shirt? Was there a lump? Then suddenly it was there with them in the drain pipe.)

Loved the kids, LOVED Lin's reaction to Meelo. :D

Agreed on Mako, too. Get your act together, man! *fistshake*

Yeah, this series is so short I think I only liked him VERY much for a couple episodes, then he kind of went into the background after the kiss...

As for Pabu I guess it's like when characters in some shows have babies...they only remember they exist for show purposes when it's convenient or necessary.

Haha yeah, Lin's reaction was great~.

Mako is definitely my least favorite right now...even under the bad guys because at least they are complicated characters...Mako just seems very 1D to me, when he isn't being a jerk.

Yeah, which bothers me. Same thing happens in RP -- people forget they have a pet/baby unless it's needed for a plot or an amusing moment.

Mako is definitely my least favorite right now...even under the bad guys because at least they are complicated characters...Mako just seems very 1D to me, when he isn't being a jerk.

Agreed. I hope (and think) this will change though. They wouldn't give the Mako name to someone who would stay like that. I bet he's going to make a Zuko-like trip and become a fan favorite.
