While I was away for ten days, I was worried my plants would die. I bought a self-watering system, but it was basically hoses and water bottles, so I worried I'd come home to dead plants.

Instead my plants sent me a message: STAY AWAY! They grew a ton while I was gone, so big and thick.

Everything got so big! On the far left are the sunflowers (already starting to bloom but not even two feet tall yet -- odd!), close up in the round pot is the thyme (which originally looked like these little sicky sprouts), in the back is basil and chives and parsley -- all of them so lush!, and on the far right is some kind of flower (the empty pot next to it never had anything in it).

Oddly, my basil seedlings all died a fast, harsh death, but the ones I grew from a seed are growing like weeds.

The flowers all look a little ratty (I think something's eating them), but the herbs are amazing. I really have to figure out something to do with it all.

KORRA KORRA KORRA (spoilers for this week's ep) )

So! Poll time!

I complain about not having had a vacation in nearly two years, but I get so bored with one day of nothing to do, I may have to rethink that.

By 9 AM, I was done with all my RL and WoW work.
By 10 AM, I was bored out of my mind.
10:30 I decided to go to the farmer's market even though I needed nothing. Got dressed, got ready, then (unsurprisingly) didn't want to go. I don't like shopping and didn't need anything, so...
Puttered for a half-hour, wasting time and watching the clock.
11-12 Debated going to Pizza Hut for lunch. Yes, I seriously spent an entire hour debating if I wanted to go or not. "I'm not hungry." "It would taste good." "It has tons of calories." "It's a far drive." Etc.
At noon I was productive and replanted some plants. Spent time trying to figure out how to make my sunflower seedlings grow straight. (They're so tiny! I couldn't even tie them to a post, they're tall but they're just thin little wisps.)

After that I spent the rest of the day on WoW. Got Crowfeather (my first WoW alt ever) to 85. That's 9/10 85s:

Should be no problem getting Clove done by MoP, then I'll just have 10 to do 85-90 on. :/ Eight are Horde (all belf except Thack the tauren), the two on the bottom are Alliance (worgen).

In the evening I took a brief spin around SMC to look for RP and found the worst, scariest RP outfit ever. D:

High point of the day was repeated viewings of The Legend of Korra. Thankfully Nik replayed it many times during the day, and I watched it every time. How can I love a show so much after only two eps? I love the artistic style, the character voices, the music (THE MUSIC! So amazingly good!), just the whole spirit of the show. It's just so good. Korra herself grew on me mega-fast, I love her so much. The city, the animals, everything.

I'm going to try to do more RL work tomorrow. Hopefully it'll be a less slacker-ish day than today was.

I didn't realize how bad I was at RPing Thistle's IC garden. My RL one is being visited by the Plagues of Egypt. Wait, there was a Plague of Powdery Mildews, right?

Yesterday I went out to check and see how my plants were doing in our uncharacteristic rain. They're under an overhang, so they don't get rained on directly, but they were still nice and damp so I was happy. Until I noticed the rosemary looked like it had been snowed on. Hm.

Google tells me it's likely Powdery Mildew, a common plant disease. If this were a flower or something, I'd be less upset, but it's on a herb I'd like to one day eat! And will it spread to the others? (Survey says... YEP!) I thought about digging up and throwing out the rosemary, since only it had signs, but it was so badly covered with the stuff that I figured the spores must have spread already.

Sigh. Growing plants is way too much trouble. Going into this, I thought my worst trouble might be squirrels eating things. Now I have bugs and mold and blah. Thistle's IC garden grew fine in RP! :P

Speaking of RP, Penny is four months old now. For those playing at home, that's this big:

She'd be looking all grown up!

And I haven't been RPing at all lately, which has me very depressed. Ore, ore, ore, ore. All I do in game anymore is make money. I spent 6 hours yesterday on it, 8 hours each night before that, and even more over the weekend. I finally crossed the million gold mark (again), but it's at a high cost. I meant to take a break and RP last night... but then a ton of cheap ore got listed at the AH. When I hit a million last night I said that would be the end of my ore buying... then this morning there were 150 seriously cheap stacks up. Sigh. I'm just going to move my buy price lower. I'll only deal with the cheapest of cheap ores. I will take my free time back! ...but there's so much money to be made.

I decided to take pictures of my "garden" today.

"By the power of Jaga, sunflowers grow straight! I, Lion-O, Lord of the Thundercats, command it!"

Poor Lion-O doesn't have enough hands to support all the sunflower seedlings. All three of those little pots were planted at the same time with different flowers. It's amazing to see how different they are! I'm still trying to figure out how to support the sunflower ones, they don't make a wire support cage small enough for them.

Three more photos of plants back here... )

A good day today. The weather was nice, and so I did a lot of cleaning up outside. Then inside and RP! :D :D I had intended to watch Hunger Games today, but I ran out of time. Hopefully tomorrow!

Lots of little pieces that I've been meaning to post about.

The "garden" (various pots of plants) is going well. I'm hoping to do more planting tomorrow, I have to go out and get more soil/pots. Some of the wee little seedlings need to be moved into bigger pots, I think. Also, one of the random seedlings is a sunflower, so I need some kind of a tiny little cage for it. Poor thing keeps flopping over, it is too tall and too thin to hold up its leaves.

Pictures will be posted sooner or later!

WoW: We took a group trip to ICC the other night, and our party makeup made it amusing. Basically all hunters. We did have a spiffy tank and a healer, but we did pet tanking as well. And by "we" I mean "people more skilled than I". I mostly just stood around and shot things.

Alas, none of the daggers I wanted dropped, but oh well. More and more of my RP is over IM, so it doesn't really matter all that much.

WoW AH: Thanks to a tip from [livejournal.com profile] jadall, I've been making money hand over fist. I hadn't done the Obsidium Shuffle since early in Cata, but someone dumped a mess of cheap ores on the AH, so I snagged 500 or so stacks of it. I mentioned it a while back. I'm still selling the results of it. It's a lot of work, but I've made about about 14K off it, very roughly estimated. It's slowing down now, but thanks to it, it's looking more and more likely that I'll hit a million gold again soonish (under 80K more to go).

FFXI: (Yes, FFXI news!) [livejournal.com profile] kaelash found an amusing old picture, done by Draque (I can't find his LJ name).

That made me laugh. :D (The answer: That moss for G1, from that cave with the crawlers. It had to be kept warm and moist, so where better!)

In picking out the icon for this post, it's sad how wrong "dark knight" now feels. My brain wants to correct it to "death knight". But on the other side of the coin, I watched some random FFXI CoP video I had saved on my work machine, and it amazed me how well I could follow the battle by sound effects alone. Even these years later, I can follow the audio cues so much better than I can in WoW. I'm not sure if the ones in WoW aren't as clear (I don't think that can be the case?), or if it's that I "PvE"ed more in FFXI. Voking, stoneshell, dispel, slow, haste, ice spikes -- I'm not 100% sure I have the names all correct, but I sure did recognize them in the video.

Also, a comm rec: [livejournal.com profile] drawsome. People submit drawings from that... what's it called... that app. Like pictionary with friends. They're surprisingly good and generally amusing!

Book 6 of 2012: Oboroten by [livejournal.com profile] loupnoir. Non-spoiler details behind the cut. Fanfic writer done good. )

Now I'm back to reading Elizabeth Moon's Engaging the Enemy (third book in the Vatta's War series) and unfortunately it's putting me to sleep. It's just sooooo boring. The characters spend whole scenes just standing around talking. I've liked the other books in the series, so I don't know why I'm suddenly slogging through this one. I'm barely reading a couple pages a day, and at that rate I'll never get through it. Sigh. I don't want to give up on it though, because I already own the rest of the books in the series.

Gardening! I'm still lacking a bench or table, and it's driving me up a wall. You would think it would be easy to get something to put pots on. I went to Big Lot (a discount store), I went to OSH (an outdoor/hardware store), and I went to the local nursery, all with no results. A guy at the last place recommended I get cinder blocks and put boards across them, but I don't want to do that. Tomorrow I'm going to try Target. I'd love a bench (like used with picnic tables), but I'd take any sort of a long outdoor table-type thing.

While at the nursery, I bought more plants. I didn't mean to! But yesterday I went to the farmer's market (in the rain!) to buy potted herbs, because I thought that would be the best place to get them. The ones at the nursery blew them away! So big and healthy compared to the poor little sickly looking things from the farmer's market. So I bought a couple of them. Thyme from the farmer's market, rosemary and basil from the nursery, plus more pots and soil.

Everything's planted and looking good! The seeds aren't doing anything yet, even though I feel like I'm checking them hourly. (A watched seed never grows?) The only thing I have left to plant is the strawberry seed, though now I feel silly for having seeds of them; the nursery is full of big, healthy looking strawberry plants.

Once I have a bench or a table or something, I'll post pictures. For now, the pots are all balanced on an old TV cart that I'll throw away once I have something better. Hopefully I'll find something at Target, because I worry the cart is one strong wind away from falling apart.

I'm starting this backwards. I went out to buy a bench or small table, something I could set up pots on, but instead I found lots of pots and no table!

I got a lot more than I intended to, too.

First thing I spotted were these tiny little pots, maybe one inch high, with different sorts of flowers. At 88 cents each, I bought three different ones. They came with their own little bits of soil and seeds, and were just so darned cute. Those I started tonight.

Second thing was a "herb garden". A long container, soil, and three different herbs. Two of the herbs were ones I didn't really need, but it was so cute I got it anyway.

I got a set of three small pots all attached to a tray, very cute, but now I'm thinking they might actually be too small. :/ I need to get a bigger pot for when I get live plants from the farmer's market.

The last thing I got was a strawberry pot (again with soil and seeds). The pot was so cutely painted and had lots of little holes for runners, I had to get it. (Sensing a theme here? So cute!)

Big Lot (a dollar store type place) is actually not very cheap at all. Well. Cheap quality, not cheap prices. I should have run next door to OSH (hardware store) to look for benches/tables, but one store per day is about my shopping limit. Maybe tomorrow!
