Hello to all the new people on my friends list! I added a dozen or so new people though the latest friending meme (still going on here if you're interested), and I'm looking forward to seeing you all on my friends list from now on!

Do you own a Kindle? If so, did you know that in addition to borrowing ebooks from Amazon for free, you can get one to keep forever for free each month? You only get to pick from four of them, but hey, a free book is a free book, right? Details here, if you're interested.

This coming week is going to be busy, mostly because the sleep study people are just so endlessly incompetent. I had an appointment last Thursday afternoon to go pick up the machine. Got there on time, they sat me in a room... then forgot about me. After 15 minutes I stuck my head out one of them actually said "Oops! I forgot you were in there!". So then the tech came in and starts explaining things to me. I looked down at the paper and noticed it had another patient's name on it. She apologized and went to get my paperwork, but returned empty handed. Turned out my machine was on backorder, it had been due to arrive at 10 AM but never did. My appointment was at 4:30. They didn't bother calling me to cancel.

So, in addition to seeing the surgeon on Wednesday, I have to go back on Monday for another appointment. Assuming the machine even gets there. Assuming they remember to call me and tell me if it does.

I did take Tuesday as a vacation day at work, because FFXIV is getting a new patch overnight Monday and I wanted the time to play with it. I wouldn't usually take time off for a game (that's a road I do not need to travel down), but this one time is an exception. We're getting personal housing, and there's nothing I like more than playing house in a video game, so I want to be online ASAP to fool around with it.

I actually don't have a kindle, although a have a kindle app on my smartphone. I usually read the books from there or from my laptop.

Do you have Amazon Prime?

Yeah, before I bought a Kindle, I used the app on my iPad. Unfortunately the app doesn't qualify, you need an actual, physical Kindle.

Yes, I'm a Prime person, I've had it since the beginning. I'm a lot less happy with it now though, and likely won't be renewing it.

Ok. I get the same service with Prime. I get to choose one book a month to download, but I don't have a Kindle. So maybe it is offered to Prime subscribers as well.

The only good thing about Prime is the free shipping and free book downloads. Their movies suck for the most part though. Occasionally we can find a good one (from the "free" selection, that is).

Next year, it goes up to $99, and I'll have to decide if I will keep it.

Did the price raise to $99 yet? If not, then you can lock in the price for another year. Buy a year as a gift, use your own email address for who it's for, and have it set to deliver the day your current membership ends. It only works for one year, but still.

Yeah, I found more good things on their free streamed TV section than movies, but still, I only used it twice total since it's been available.

The issue for me is that fewer and fewer items are covered by Prime, and there's the whole "add on" thing that restricts it further.

Sounds like you've had a lot of drama with the sleep study people... here's hoping the next attempt is fruitful.

Niiice. I remember FFXIV had a private room thing, didn't it? But a house would be really cool. I played a bit during the beta and I do have a copy of the game that I haven't activated yet. Sounds like this is a good time to give it a look!

FFXI had a private room, but FFXIV hasn't yet. FCs can have a house, but that's a group thing instead of something you yourself own.

I'm really, really enjoying the game. It's probably the best MMO I've played yet (though I only played two previously, FFXI and WoW). I recommend activating it when you have time to play. :)

The surgeon wants me to use the machine while in the hospital -- implied is to use it every night. I guess I probably will (if I ever get the darned thing!), but I'll probably stop once I'm all healed up after it. Supposedly it helps people heal faster, and I'm all for that.

I'm glad you did, too! This is easily the worst part of the process so far.

It's great! Mine is really busy again. Once you make an intro post, what I did was went back and read all the others and friended interesting people, didn't just wait for people to find me.

Taking time off work for hobbies is the best thing. I took time off work to be able to watch the Golden Globes and the Oscars this year. It was glorious. I think I'll do the same thing next year XD
