thistlechaser: (DPS: We deliver)
How's this for sad? My first thought upon waking up this morning was 'Oooh, expansion pack today! Yay!'. Heh.

So yep, I did sleep! Not enough, but five hours is still better than four hours, and if you add the two nights together then I have a whole night's worth of sleep! Heh.

Work is way too busy. I need to concentrate and get lots done today, but my mind is being distracted by something (expansion pack, expansion pack, expansion pack). Hmm, wonder what that something could be (expansion pack, expansion pack, expansion pack).

Huh, I thought I had more to write about then this, but I guess not. Okay, on to work foo!

Oh, and I moved my character to Jeuno this morning, so as soon as I get the pack installed I can turn in my key and head out to the new areas!

*tries not to hit refresh on the UPS tracking page every minute* I left a note on my door for them to leave the package, they better do that! I can't be home to sign for it!

I decided to come home for lunch to see if UPS had left me a package, and as I approached my driveway I spotted a UPS truck! He was leaving though! Did he leave me the package? Had it needed a signature and a note wasn't good enough? Should I chase him down and shake him back and forth and demand my package?

Instead I decided I'd pretend to be a sane adult and parked my car and checked if the package was on my doorstep. And it was! So yay, my whole lunch hour to install it!

I put the DVD in and... nothing. Okay, maybe it didn't like the DVD-RW drive, so try the DVD-R drive. Nothing. Ack!

So clever, clever me went into Windows explorer and into the DVD that way. I picked the most likely thing to click on, but I had looked too fast and missed the 'Windows Installer' icon. Heh. But setup.exe seemed to work, too!

The installer took a surprisingly long time (20-ish minutes?), then I got to register and now it's checking 14,000 files. I just hope it will do the download without me having to click 'ok' at any point, because I doubt it'll finish checking before I have to go back to work.

If all goes well, it'll be finished when I arrive home tonight! Eee!

Edit: Woo, checking went fast (about 20 more minutes?), now downloading 257 files. Gotta go back to work soon though. :(

Any spoilers behind cut or links. Every and likely all cuts/links may contain spoilers!

Holy cow, the new areas are nice. Amazing detail. Not as pretty as CoP areas, but nice in their own ways.

I wish I had taken notes of all the new/cool things I encountered as I went along, but I was too excited and kept getting distracted by stuff. :P

Highly cool: We were on the second boat into the new area! I thought we were first, but apparently there was one boat ahead of us. :( Luckily that first boat was nearly empty, so we were still some of the first players to ever enter the new zones.

Waiting for the new content to become active was a serious bitch. God damned idiot players couldn't stop spamming, /randoming (which cannot be filtered out), and making drinking/farting/raping/high school jokes. I would have willingly shot each of them in the head (okay, not really). But the bad part was over fast and the new stuff was so wonderful it totally outshined it!

ExpandA few details on things I liked. Again, thar be spoilers here! )

And lastly, I loved how I treated the whole area differently: Usually I ignore NPCs, but I wanted to talk to each and every one in the new areas. :D

A warning: The mobs outside of town are serious. They're EP and up to a 75, and high end EP at that (got 18 XP for killing one in a party). Not only that, they're strong and fast. I saw a tiger chase down and kill a 75 NIN or THF. I swear, the tiger looked like it had Flee on. I've never seen any mob move that fast.

I took a few hundred screenshots. :P I picked out the best ones to upload, but that's 72 of them. They are not edited! They're full sized! Sorry, but there are too many of them and it's too late for me to edit them. Also sorry that that FPS is stuck in the corner; I hate seeing it there, but I'm using an old version of the Windower and I can't get rid of it (I tried all of the F-keys...).

Whole directory, feel free to look at as many or as few as you like: http://www.hot-hot-hot-catlove.com/ffxi/treasures/ (Again: Spoiler warnings!)

Some of the ones I especially like:
ExpandEh, wow, the list of links got long. I'll LJ cut to save poor non-FFXI people spam. About 12 links/descriptions back here. )

Man, so much to see! I'm highly tempted to call in sick to work tomorrow, but I can't/shouldn't/won't. It'll all still be there when I get back. :)

Again, sorry the screenshots aren't smaller. I know they're easier to see when resized, but I have no time. So sleepy. zzzzz

Oh, Ead: There's a black pepper vendor there with what appears to be an unlimited amount of it. We can bring some in for you if you still need it.
