The Day After, and FFXI
Nov. 25th, 2006 06:19 amBack when I was a kid, nuclear war was a much bigger fear than it is now. (Kids these days, worrying about terrorism! Pshaw! Back in my day...) Russia and East Germany (*snicker*) were Big Bad Guys out to get us. The Day After was a movie about a nuclear war happening, the US nuked, what would happen after, etc.
Hands down, this movie was responsible for more nightmares than anything else in my life. It's not so scary watching it now, but I could see how it would be for a kid. (Plus, I'm only an hour into the three hour movie, the missiles are just starting to fly.) It came out in 1983, and I've not seen it since then, so it's really odd how some of the dialogue is familiar.
I'm also getting this 'you really shouldn't be watching' this feeling, but I don't want to listen to that. I want to see this bogyman that's been with me for so long.
(Eh, okay, in the time it's taken me to write and edit this post, it's getting scarier. I'm not sure how much of it is real-scary though and how much of it is triggering remembered stuff.)
---
FFXI: Another boring day. Hunted that NM orc on the barge through Carpenter's Landing for way too many hours (of course not seeing it), then skilled with Dani, Des, and Nai (which was more interesting). Other than that, nada.
Tomorrow is BRD static. I really want to hit 75 so we can stop XPing and do more interesting things, like Assault. (I know you can do them capped, but not everyone in the group wants to hold capped armor.) I'm actually almost looking forward to doing something CoP-ish. So very bored. zzz
Edit: I got tired of seeing that Digging With Bore post at the top of my main page, so I gave it a tag and reset its date. You can find it through tags (right side of my main page) or linked here.
