Being offline for a week is rough. Even with my phone, I couldn't keep up with anything. Not to mention there's a week worth of work waiting for me at my job...

My poor kitty has brain damage from being at the vet for a week. She wanders around the apartment and calls for me as if she were lost (or I was?). She also wakes up abruptly and calls for me. At the moment, she's behind my bed and will call for me every few minutes, which is odd since she has a cat bed on the desk within arm's reach of me... Kitty brains are odd.

It was very good to see my mother, and we did some fun things in Maine. Two zoos (York was wonderful, the Grey Animal Rehab center was bad to the point I worried for the animals). The weather was awful (every day but one the high was 55 and it rained). The last day was in the 70s and beautiful, and I got a bad sunburn at the zoo. :P

Unfortunately the flights, especially coming home, were awful. Eight hours of delays in Chicago (some kind of issue with the San Francisco air traffic controllers). Then they lost my bag... It's been 24 hours now, and still no sign of it. On one hand, United "knows" it's in San Francisco, so technically it's not really lost? But I'm not a big clothing person -- I only own five pairs of pants I could wear to work, and four of them are in my bag. The loss of it would be a very big issue for me. The baggage delivery company they use sucks. I can't get an ETA or even acknowledgement that my bag even exists, 24 hours later.

Uber is such a wonderful thing. For $14 I got a ride from the San Jose airport (see the issue with my bag being in San Francisco?). I did have to share it with one other person, and that person got dropped off first even though I was picked up first, but still! Fast trip, cheap price. It was the high point of my trip home.

It's so good to be back!

Edit: Good work, United. Apparently my bag was sitting in San Francisco all day, because they didn't know I wanted it delivered. Even though I filled out a delivery form with the United baggage support person and have a copy of it in my hand... It would have just stayed in that other airport if I hadn't had called to check.

I swear, I always get sunburnt when I go to New England because it's not HOT just sunny, so I forget to apply enough sun block. :\ Hope you're not too peel-y.

Poor Kitty. :( I hope she remembers where she is soon! Kitty cries go from "oh sweety, stop" to "OMG STFU!!!!!!!" quickly, especially at 3am.

I hate flying. I will do it because it is fast and I can't drive to all the places I want to go, but UGH. I've had my bag lost once and it was not fun. It's even worse now with all the limits about what you can bring on board etc. - good to know they "found" it but UGH come one United, get it together! You'd think with all the other "customer service" issues they have had recently, they would be trying their best to get everything right and be extra helpful. I know airport jobs are thankless jobs but still. Reuniting luggage with its owner seems like the best way to keep people happy!

At least you had fun with your Mom. :)

Oy, on the wandering bag. Good job, United.

I'm glad it was a mostly good time, except for the weather. (And I will keep that in mind about the Animal Center.)

I finally got my bag back this morning, so that's good. But I'm going to try not checking bags anymore. Which is also such a pain. Ugh.

I wish there were some other reasonable way to get across the country! (Why don't we have teleportation yet?)

I can't remember, did you make it to York? I really, really liked that zoo. They took real efforts to keep their animals entertained. The rehab center was the opposite. They gave their animals nothing to do, nothing to work for... they just paced back and forth endlessly, same steps taken, same exact paths.

I finally got my bag today, so yay on that.

I often wonder the same thing...and then I deal with airport staff and they lose luggage etc. and the idea of them being in charge of a machine that shifts molecules to different locations...**shudders**

Just got back from my vacation too. Weather in NorCal was great. A few foggy mornings, clear days, only 1 day of rain in 8 days. Highs in the low 60s (compared to home, in the 90s and humid and pollen and ugh). Did the tourist stuff, did some outdoorsy hiking stuff, brother-in-law got it in his head to rent some motorcycles and ride up 1 along the coast and wrecked at low speed...no harm, but bike hit a subcompact and caused some damage I expect he'll be dealing with for a while. Lovely place to visit but gods I wouldn't want to live there. Just talking to locals and the universal kvetch seemed to be considering where to move as the living cost slowly drives them out. That said there were some lovely towns further north that had reasonable housing prices.

Yeah, that's the general topic of conversation here. It's just so impossible to live here...

I'm glad to hear your vacation went well! I was amused, I left the good weather to go to the worse weather... then when I went home, the east coast became better than here.
