That one about the wolves would loose me, too. It's like this kid series I tried about Wolves of the Beyond? I was enjoying it until the protagonist, a young wolf that got kicked out of his pack, started reading symbols on the wall of a cave he found, to learn his history. With no teaching (up to that point I had no idea that animals in this world could "read"). Maybe it was magic- I don't know, I didn't finish to find out!
