Though (as ever) I vowed never to go to Fry's again, I needed blank CDs and a birthday card. Where else can you get electronics and birthday cards besides at Fry's? So off I went, and had a thankfully uneventful trip. I ended up with more CDs than I had intended (because they were on sale), but I'll eventually use them all, so it's good.

I also picked up something I had been shopping around online for: A softsided binder with sleeves (right word?) to hold the CDs in. One that held 120 CDs: $39.99. Same one, but held 240 CDs? $19.99. Scratching my head, I snatched up the second one. Can't wait to fill it up!

(By the way, I had to snicker at myself: I'm itching to get my anime moved onto CDs so that it'll be safe in case my harddrive crashes. Imagine! Of all the stuff on my computer, I'm worried most about that? Hee.)

Speaking about things I hate to admit but am admitting in this post: In a sick sort of way, I'm happy to be back to work. I hate the work itself and I'm bored out of my mind, but I like having somewhere I need to be in the morning. I like having noon arrive and that I'm required to go to lunch. I like knowing that when five comes, I'll leave and go home. My parents say this sort of thing comes from my "German blood", but I don't know about that. No one else in my family feels this way -- every single other member of my immediate family owns their own business or medical practice, I'm the *only* one who works for another company. I'm the only one who likes... "rigidness"? Right word for it? Structure. Schedules. Nothing feels better than having a schedule and sticking to it. Getting things done on time. Being efficient. (I feel so Percy-ish sometimes.)

And that concludes this afternoon's look into Thistle's head. Join us tomorrow, when we take a tour of her right arm and shoulder...

Edited to add:

you are darkgreen
#006400

Your dominant hue is green. You're logical and steadfast, focused on figuring life out and doing what makes sense. You value being trusted because you know you're taking the time to figure things out and everyone should just follow you.

Your saturation level is very high - you are all about getting things done. The world may think you work too hard but you have a lot to show for it, and it keeps you going. You shouldn't be afraid to lead people, because if you're doing it, it'll be done right.

Your outlook on life is dark. You're generally a pessimist and everyone knows it; you're the one the come to when they don't want the sunshine blown around, they just want to straight truth. You can miss good things in life if you make up your mind too early though.

Schedule structure

It sounds like the difference between yourself and your family is that you need externally imposed structure, while they can make their own. Which explains the not eating thing on weekends. :)

Well... If they're making their own structure, it's of a sort that I can't recognize (which might fit?). To me, it looks like they do things at random times -- they don't work the same time on any two days of the week, their days off come as the business allows it, and sometimes they do things like laundry at 2 AM! I think if I lived closer to them, I'd spend more of my life gasping than doing anything else.

Agreed. I fully admit that I need a keeper! :)

And yet you've said in the past that you hate people mothering you. :)

*laughs!* Uh, well. Um... I do need one, but I hate when it's done to me, right! I guess it's like knowing you need to stop smoking, but hating when people bug you about it? Yeah, that's it... :P

I think what you need is not a keeper, but a butler- someone who'd see to getting the laundry folded, the food shopped for and prepared, and the tires rotated, but would also be someone you could tell to bugger off if he tried to serve your crepes suzette at an inopportune time. Butlers are also almost always impeccably dressed; keepers are a mixed bag in that regard. ;)

I think it's fairly common to "like" working, in that it's a relief not to have to be responsible for your own sense of productivity during the day. I can go to work and get a ton of stuff done, or I can go and do just enough not to get fired, but at the end of the day if someone asks what I did I can say "well, I went to work." On the other hand, if you have every day to plan yourself, that's a tremendous amount of responsibility. Though, I do think the ennui I feel after having a lot of days off in a row (or being unemployed) is not really akin to being self-employed, because then I'd be in that mode, and simply being out of work you have no impetus to impose any kind of schedule on yourself, either in terms of productivity or real time, because you know you'll just be returning to work in a little while anyway.

Huh, that's really interesting and true! I never really looked at it that way before.

Thanks!
