For all people joke about her, Martha Stewart seems to be a strong, honorable woman. I admire her and I hope that if I were ever in a similar situation, I would act the same way. I hope she's able to plant her garden, and I hope her situation in prison isn't too bad.

See, I feel completely different than that. I've seen her as likeable, but when the word got out that she was part of insider trading - that is when she became bad for me.

Insider trading represents one of the worst crimes contemporary times has seen. It is corruption at its worst, and often connected to bad politics, too. I really do think that Stewart receives every bit of villification that she's received thus far.

Capitalism is arguably one of the worst crimes contemporary times has seen. Seriously, though, I've never seen insider trading as all that bad, all things considered. Our society is set up to reward ambition, and using whatever one can to get ahead, even when morally ambiguous (or even reprehensible). As such, punishing someone for it in this particular case seems somewhat arbitrary.
Screwed up as life under our corporate masters is, it seems silly to take offense at someone using the tools available to get ahead, particularly when Conglomco just put 50,000 people out of work to raise the stocks of their BoD a tenth of a point.
