Yeah, that was along the lines of what I was wondering, too. Since pets need so much less XP per level than the Hunter does, I suppose a pet could quickly out-level the Hunter if they were permitted to gain XP the whole time.
Still, it seems strange they didn't give them a higher number needed to level or a slower rate or something, so that they wouldn't get "frozen" so often -- it was very odd to have been XPing an hour and find his XP bar empty.
Heck, they could make a Hunter and the pet need the exact same amount and gain the same amount per kill -- just have their XP bars be mirrors of each other.
