I'm depressed that I'm depressed (RL, FFXI)

I hate it when work overshadows the rest of my life. I know that in a couple weeks this annoying period will pass and I'll forget about it, so I try not to think about it outside of the office, but I've been failing.

It's especially annoying when being depressed about work keeps me from enjoying stuff that I'd otherwise enjoy.

Today's my birthday, and I had no time for breakfast, no time for anything but a flying lunch, and no time to get something good for dinner (let alone a sweet treat). I'm not usually big on birthdays/holidays, but I usually like getting at least something special (a gift for myself, some food I wouldn't usually eat, something), but I had no time.

Today was a big update on FFXI, and while it's full of Good Stuff, I'm not really enjoying it. I feel like I'm just going through the motions.

I sampled the low level Field of Valor thing, and it's amusingly so much like a WoW quest... except easier (how funny is that?). I had to kill 3 bees and 3 saplings for 330 bonus XP and 330 gil. Mine was the highest level Valor page thingie, so that's why I had "so many" mobs to kill, heh. Still, it's nice to be given something for free.

The chests dropped by mobs rocks my socks. I stayed out XPing for 3.5 hours on EP-- mobs with no XP band, no armor, and no weapon just because getting chests was so cool. Unfortunately I only successfully opened two of the five "perma" (non-temp) chests and got a single bone arrowhead and a med. Lots of reports of people getting armor/weapons though. Wish I had gotten one.

Whenever a mule finishes a craft, I treat myself to something big for my MH. Usually that's not literal! What's wrong with this picture?

It's killing me to have nothing left to skill. :/ I don't know how long I'll be able to resist making a new mule.

Oh, I'm not mocking WoW! It is generally easier than FFXI though, so FFXI getting a quest that's easier than WoW than is easier than FFXI... it's funny! :P
