If you skipped over Google's homepage today, you should check it out.

Especially if you like stories.
Especially if you listen to NPR.

The homepage is hosted by Ira Glass (This American Life on NPR -- long stories about people), and the stories are just like the StoryCorps segments on NPR (very short stories about an event in a person's life).

In addition to recommending the Google page, I highly recommend checking out StoryCorps (though a warning: Some of the stories will probably make you cry). This American Life is great, too.

I was all stressed out today and just didn't have the time to explore the homepage. Now I'm glad I did. Some of the stories are "heavy" (as Ira says -- very emotional, sad), but it's so worth it. A lot of them had me sniffling, but the middle blue one really got the tears flowing. (I'd suggest listening to them in order though!)

Edit: There's a How the Google Doodle was Made video, which is interesting not just for how it was made, but for all the glimpses of what life at Google is like (so many dogs!).
thistlechaser: (Obama gay rights)
My president. <3 Obama supports gay marriage. Yay! New icon time!

Soon enough people will look back on this whole mess in the same way we now do the whole anti-interracial marriage battle.

So often I want to post rants. I don't understand how anyone can be against equality for everyone. I don't understand how it matters to anyone what strangers do in the bedroom. I don't understand how people who not too long ago didn't have the right to marry anyone they wanted could now work to deny others of those same rights... but I won't spam you all. You know how I feel, I'm sure. :)

*sniffles* I don't know why happy, hopeful videos always make me cry. I think something is cross-wired in my head.

(Work safe, though it is Burning Man, so there are a couple quick glimpses of scantily-clad people and suggestive positions.)

"Based on Dr. Seuss's final book before his death, this is a story about life's ups and downs, told by the people of Burning Man 2011."

This is just so sweet and positive and hopeful. I love everyone in the video. Every colorful, pierced, costumed, person in it.
