For some reason, I like to keep my book review posts on their own, so there will be another post sometime later today with a couple of reviews.

First off, exciting times! While this DOES NOT COUNT, as tomorrow is my official weighing day, I couldn't help but take a picture anyway. The first time I've been under 200 since I went away to college (multiple decades ago).

Now I just have to eat really, really good today so it doesn't go up for my official weighing tomorrow. :D (And yes, I'm bad, I can't help but weigh myself every single day. Yes, it makes me crazy. But I also think it makes me more accountable for my day-to-day eating.)

For a couple reasons, I think I'm going to move to Kaiser insurance when we're able to switch. Money is part of it (they're the cheapest plan by far), but also [livejournal.com profile] gonzostar posted some information on coverage of skin removal, and it seems like it will be a much easier process there. I'm not 100% sure I want to have it done (surgery, eek!), but my surgeon said I have about 15 pounds of stomach skin (can you imagine?), and getting my breasts done would be another big chunk, so I almost want to have it done for "easy" loss off ~25 pounds.

Stardew Valley people: I found an easy way to get a screenshot of your whole farm. Go to http://upload.farm, upload your save file (open Windows Explorer, enter %appdata%, and you can find it from there), and you get a page like mine, scroll down to the bottom for the map. You can see my farm and all my game stats there.

[livejournal.com profile] orangerful had said I had a had a good farm, which started my quest to make that screenshot. As you can see, my farm SUCKS. I hadn't even realized how bad it was until I saw that overhead shot. So much wasted space! I think I'm going to scrap the whole thing and start over.

---

I'm spinning my wheels right now on so much stuff. My vacation is coming up in less than a month, and there's so much I have to do/plan, I'm so nervous about so much. (I really hate my brain sometimes.) Even though I'm planning on leaving my apartment four hours before my flight (leaving two hours for what should be just over a 30 minute drive, but it'll be rush hour, and two hours for security and such), I'm so worried something will happen and I'll miss it.

Also, I had thought I wouldn't have to check my bag, but it's a couple inches too big, so I guess I'll have to. That's not such a big deal on the outgoing leg, but onto the returning home leg, I have a 45 minute layover (shorter than I'd like), so I have no idea if I or my bag will make it... Plus there's always the worry that someone might steal your bag during luggage claim.

---

Though it's still early, I'm plotting and planning things for my move. I'd like to be rid of my sofa, but I had no idea how hard of a task that is. If I have someone come in to haul it away, it will be a minimum of $150! It's way too big for me to get out of my apartment myself, otherwise I could sneak it into the apartment complex trash (not supposed to dump furniture there, but people do).

I'm semi-considering buying a saw and, assuming it's made of wood inside, breaking it down into smaller pieces that I can take out during the night myself (putting a sheet down to contain any mess). However, I have no idea of a number of things: How expensive a saw is. What I would do with the saw after. If it's made of wood inside or if there are metal bars. How big of a job it would be to saw a sofa into pieces myself.

I will NOT be buying a new sofa to replace it. :P

I just got rid of a big-ass sofa a couple months ago. It was a tremendous pain in the ass, and I got out my saw as well. And my heat gun for the plastic bits. While some parts are made of wood, a great deal of it was indeed metal. I instead decided, since it's just barely too big for my hallway, to just take off the feet... with the saw, which also didn't work, so in comes the heat gun, no dice... so I took a mallet (which also didn't work, and switched to a standard hammer) and just went nuts on it til the feet broke away. I also had to remove my door (I used the hammer and chisel to get the pins out of the hinges, since the entire hinges wouldn't come unscrewed). I should note that I did all this after discovering the hard way that the couch wasn't gonna budge through that hallway... after it was firmly wedged in, so I was climbing all over it!

I did what I could myself, but then got stuck, and at one point just used the couch AS MY FRONT DOOR for the night til my boyfriend got home to help me tumble it down the stairs. What a nightmare!

We also decided not to get a replacement couch for a long time, and instead got an elliptical. That was great for a while, but we buckled and got a cheap futon a few weeks ago.

Ugh, I'm sorry to hear yours had metal in it. I'm worried I'd get started on this, and end up not getting anywhere at all because it's full of metal.

I'm pretty sure the feet of mine will just come off (they were screw-on, I believe), but I still have no idea how it even fit in my apartment, let alone how it'll get back out...

Got any big-ass windows?

From: [identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com
Ha! Actually I do, and a sliding glass door. If I could get the window/door out of the frame, that might work better than the front door, but I'm not good with repairs and don't think I could fix it again after...

Why don't you put the sofa up on Freecycle instead?

I suspect no one would want it. It's worth trying I guess, but it was one of those fake leather ones, and the "leather" is flaking off in big sections, so it looks kind of bad.

My first thought had been to donate it to Good Will or something, since they'd come pick it up, but I don't think they'd take it for the same reason.

Edit: Hm, there are very few sofas/couches offered there, I wonder why? I think I'll take some pictures tonight and see if I get any nibbles.

As long as the structure is sound, I'd bet someone would want it. Cosmetic issues can be covered, literally, with sofa covers.

I had a rather badly used bookcase picked up by a school in need of one. That warmed my heart to know.

People will even sometimes take broken things, because it's cheaper to fix it than to buy new. I like that my stuff will continue to see use when I don't want it anymore!

That's what I'm doing now, I have a fuzzy blanket over it.

Whew, hope that works! Thanks for the idea!

I worked for Kaiser for about eleven years and loved their coverage. I tried to hang onto them, when we moved; unfortunately, they don't cover this zip code.

Why not post your sofa on CL as a freebie? Get someone else to move it for you.

Congratulations on the weight loss! Stay healthy and don't fixate on numbers.

Thanks, I'll try! :D

I'm going to try Freecycle first, and if that fails, then CL next. I'm a touch nervous because I'll have to let strangers into my apartment, but I'd have to do the same if some mover came to haul it away too...

Congratulations on the weight milestone! :)

Can you rent a saw at a tool rental? It should be cheap and you can have it off your hands again after.

Hmmm good question! *googles* Looks like I could only rent power saws, which I think I'd have to pass on. I'd be likely to take off a hand!

However, while I'm looking up that, it appears as though I could buy a hand saw for $5-$10, so that's not too bad.

What kind of shape is the sofa in? Could you post to Facebook or someplace like that and see if anyone local wants it? Like "It is yours for FREE if you can get it out of my apartment" kind of deal? I did that with my old TV and had some local work friends take me up on it.

I hate flying. If I could drive everywhere, I would because the stress of security and baggage is just ridiculous! I'm sure everything will be fine though, 45 minutes should be plenty for the bags to transfer safely. And if they are going to get lost on the way home, well at least you are going in the right direction! Better they be delayed on your way home than on your way to your vacation.

LOL omg okay I gotta share a picture of my far because, honestly, I just completed my first year and I haven't even cleared out that southern half of my far. This is probably why I have no money LOL. I do have a cow and 3 chickens though (which was actually a mistake because I accidentally clicked on "buy chicken" twice one day while not paying attention, so now I have lots of egg and mayo...you'd think I'd have a recipe for egg salad in my collection but no!)

From: [identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com
I'm going to try that and see if it will work. Freecycle and Craigslist first, fingers crossed!

100% agreed, I'd rather my bags get lost on the way home than the way there. I can live at home without a week's worth of stuff!

Man, I made an accidental purchase early on, too. Food though, which was useless to me at the time. I was so mad, it was so expensive (at the time) and I spent all my money by mistake on it!

More recipes are coming in the 1.1 patch, so maybe we'll get egg salad then. :P

Does your local council or whatever you call them not have a bulky item pickup? I know my husband's area in NY did because he left all his stuff on the curb for them. (We also have it in the UK and Australia.)

Yep, but I'd have to get it out of my apartment myself, plus pay a fee for it. (Getting it out of my apartment myself is pretty much impossible.)
