Fruits Basket Ending? (A)
Mar. 21st, 2004 02:16 pmThe last two eps of the series were subtitled in a most horrible way. "Want" was spelled as "wan't" every single time -- and that was one of the more understandable spelling/grammar errors! So either that was responsible for me not understanding the ending or the ending was meant to be confusing.
So without his bracelet, Kyo turns into some freaky half-man half-monster-cat thing. Tohru runs after him, tells him she still wants them to live together, hugs him, and apparently he turns into a cat because next we see her walking him with him in her arms. I take it this didn't break the curse or do anything at all other than make Kyo feel better?
So next Tohru wants to go see Akito. In the version I saw, Shigure tells her "no" and in the very next scene calls Akito and tells him Tohru is coming. (The conversation must have been mis-translated or something...)
I'm really confused on the whole final scene. Tohru tells Akito she feels bad for him. Nothing at all of substance is said. Akito grabs her hair, the others make him let go, and they all leave... nothing significant at all is ever said. (Another poor translation job?)
Walking away, the adults say the kids are more energetic now, and they all have new reason to live. Buh? I'm assuming something happened that made them say that...
And that's it, the end. I can accept the curse not being broken and nothing really improving for the characters, but as the ep ended, I was left just scratching my head.
When the dubbed eps get released, I'm going to watch the whole second half of the series again. I suspect I missed a lot more than just the right ending.
Edit: Yesterday I grabbed movie called The Boy Who Saw The Wind, and posted saying that it was a Ghibli film that I hadn't even heard of... well that was for a reason. Turns out it's from a different production company, and whoever BTed it just added 'Ghibli' onto the file name. Just a FYI.

Date: 2004-03-22 08:18 am (UTC)The set of eps I got had stuff done by four different groups in it! Two were fine, one was okay, and one sucked doggy-butt. The last two eps were done by that sucky group.
(re. I will be buying it when the furuhon have a cheap set deal ^_~)
Great! Make sure to post about how you like it! :)
