Dragon Wings (Dragon Riders of Avria Book 2) by N. A. Davenport. Of the first book in this series I wrote:

What a good book! And even more surprising, it was self published! I never would have guessed (the editing was perfect and the writing was pretty darned good!).

So clearly the author knows what editors are and how to get the services of one. This book wasn't edited at all, not even a single readthrough by someone other than the author.

The one and only review on Goodread said, the first sentence of the review:

Such a pity that this book was full of typos and bad grammar. Maybe a proofreader would be advisable.

The errors were extensive and would have been easily caught: Names not capitalized. Wrong words used. In a couple places, sentences just cut off mid-sentence. Sigh.

It's really a shame, because while the story wasn't original, I really did enjoy it. It was like a mix of Harry Potter and Dragonriders of Pern.

The bad creatures in the book could have been changed for 'thread' from Pern without changing a thing about them.

The dragons had four colors, which split the kids into four houses wings, each with one defining trait:
The green dragon riders were sly, evil, mean -- basically Slytherin (which was green/silver colored in HP).
The red dragon riders were bold and loud (Gryffindor, red/gold).
The yellow dragon riders liked to have fun (Hufflepuff? This is the only one that doesn't perfectly fit, but Hufflepuff was yellow/black).
The blue dragon riders valued intelligence over all else (Ravenclaw, blue/bronze color).

But even if the story wasn't original, I would have really enjoyed the book if it had even a light pass of editing. It's really such a shame.
