PSA: Keep in mind today is April Fool's Day, the day when it's perfectly okay to try to trick other people and make them feel bad about falling for some stupid joke. Yes, for the first time in years I fell for a joke. Posted to a comm alerting people to this new thing. Forgot what day it was. Ended up looking like an idiot. BUT IT'S ALL IN GOOD FUN SO IT'S OKAY, RIGHT?

Sorry, world, I have damned bigger things on my mind than keeping track of a a stupid "holiday". Like a new $10,000 bill for my hospital stay months back. It's almost funny, I was grumpy that I got a $1,000 bill when I was first released. Then I got a $500 one, then two more $500 ones, then another $1,000 one, then a $3,000 one, now this $10,000 one.

I have to see how much I can argue them down on it. Turns out the home nurse and the IV antibiotics were out of network, so I have to pay the $10,000 deductible out of pocket.

Each visit from the home nurse, most of which were 10 minutes, longest was 20, cost me $850 per day! And $200 per day for the antibiotics. This went on for more than two weeks!

I'm starting to think the adults in Loki's Wolves were right -- the system is corrupt. Let all life end and we can start over. Maybe the new life won't invent an April Fool's Day.

No one makes GIPs anymore (Gratuitous Icon Posts) -- posts only to show off a new icon. Well, to be fair, this isn't one either. Showing off a new icon is just bonus! Larger version of it:

I wanted one for posts about my upcoming surgery, and I've been watching for an artist I liked/reasonable priced for a while. What the heck happened to cheap/reasonable commissions? So many "artists" (and I use that term loosely) want $15 for an icon, when I wouldn't bother taking their art for free. I mean that literally: Some of them have offered free art as well as charging, and I didn't even like their work enough to go through the effort of posting a description of what I wanted.

Ah well, on to other subjects. Bad start to the weekend. My leg was having issues, so after watching it for 24 hours I decided I better go to urgent care (walk-in clinic) and have it looked at. Doctor there took one look at it (really, one look, didn't touch it or anything) and told me to go to the ER to be admitted to the hospital for IV antibiotics.

I nearly broke down crying, but I didn't have time for that. I went straight home, packed a bag with all the things I wished I had had the first time (phone charger! underwear!), and took Ellie New Cat to the vet for emergency boarding. ([livejournal.com profile] tersa, I was going to call you and my boss once I was settled into a room.)

And then I cried. I sat in the vet's parking lot and sobbed for a while. Going back into the hospital is my nightmare, especially for the same damned problem I had the first time!

The ER was great. Almost no waiting time: As soon as I sat down in the waiting room, they called me. I hadn't even had had time to put my bag down. The ER doctor disagreed with the urgent care doctor and sent me home with care instructions and such. I could have kissed him. I did say "I love you!" (in a silly way).

So that was most of Saturday. By the time I got home, I was stressed out of my mind and ready to crawl under my bed and never come out. (All this on top of no more than three hours of sleep per night for the previous six nights.)

Sunday was better. I slept almost ten hours straight. I feel a lot better now.

All I can say is that 2014 sucks. This is the worst year of my adult life. This medical stuff needs to end.

One day I'll write cheery posts again. Or cherry posts. Mmm, cherry.

I got my itemized bill from the hospital today. I have insurance (THANKFULLY), so it was sent for my information.

I was in the hospital exactly 14 days.

Total bill? $144,769

I nearly fell over. Just the hospital room and (awful) food cost $84,000 for the 14 days.

My antibiotic, the only one that worked, cost $250/dose when put in by the home nurse. When put in at the hospital? $3,990/dose.

I'd like to have a word with those who claim America has the greatest health care system in the world. The service I received was nearly 100% perfect, I have no complaints at all there, but the prices are just so unreasonable that 'unreasonable' doesn't even describe it.

One shot of nasal spray for a stuffy nose, put in by me, cost $179.

In related news, I'm still on the mend. Getting better every day, but still weak and little energy. Returning to work on Monday, so we'll see how that goes.

Slowly getting better. Small steps. I can now take a shower on my own, standing up. Has to be short, but I can.

Today I started getting bored for the first time -- another sign I'm getting healthier, I guess. I can't sit in a chair (or stand still upright, anything with my lower leg straight down -- but walking is ok), which means no computer for me. My computer is a laptop but it's massive and not meant to be moved off the desk.

I logged on to WoW once to pick up my mail, since it gets deleted after 30 days. I don't miss the game much, but do very much the people and RP.

Seeing doctors and specialists every couple days. Still on IV antibiotics for another week. Lost 25 pounds in under two weeks in hospital. Tomorrow have to sit at computer long enough to look at disability paperwork from HR at work.

Ipad is saving me.

Home now YAY. Cant be on computer so posting from iPad. Released late yesterday.

Nurse sees me daily at home. Iv antibiotics rest of month. Still 2 heavy painkillers.

Reading friends list 150 posts behind. Sorry for no comments. Hard on pad plus hands shake badly from pain and meds.

Out from work at least until 1/29. Alternating between terrible pain and bored so that's not good.

Miss everyone.

Day 14? in hospital. Feel disconnected from world. Might de released this weekend. No one knows.

Ever have the second most expensive thing in the world? My antibiotic is $250 per dose for 20 days. Only antibiotic more expensive than it is $1000/day. YAY for insurance.

Painkillers not working well anymore even after they doubled them.

I miss being home. Hope everyone is well. Read 400 of 600 new LJ posts. Sorry no comments. On back iPad overheas makes it hard to type.

Been in hospital since Friday. Infection spread, keeps outsmarting antibiotics. Might be released Saturday. Long term worst case is out of work "months". People were right in last post. Things started with that.

Dr thinks fever finally broke for good.

Boss was a wonder and brought her phone charger for me and gift flowers and cards from coworkers.

Mother flying in tomorrow. Ellie ok

Will update better from home.
