Snips and Snails and Puppy Dog Tales

This might be the most specific tip I've ever posted. My apartment came with vertical blinds. I love them! Unlike the horizontal one, they don't collect tons of dust. Then they started falling out. How does the little tab break? I have no idea. Is it my fault? It might be? (Sometimes I slide them open without turning them open first.) Since I live in an apartment I could go and ask them to fix it, but I didn't know if they would think it was me. (Let me tell you about the time a squirrel ran across my porch and got caught on my sliding glass door screen, right at the height a cat would scratch... Of course they'll think my cat damaged it even though it was the squirrel!) I tried fixing the blind slat with tape, but that didn't last even a day.

I decided to google before going to management. Turns out there's an easy and cheap-ish fix. Vane Savers! (The official name of the slats is apparently "vane".) This is the cheapest one on Amazon, so I ordered it. Under $10 to fix ten of them? I can handle that.

In other news, my focus for TV shows is so scattered. A friend introduced me to Lost Girl and I love it... but I watched three eps and never returned. I downloaded Teen Wolf to catch up with this season, but watched two eps and now I can't force myself to watch more. I love West Wing, but I've not watched it in ages. So many series on Netflix that I'm in the middle of, but I just can't concentrate on them.

Speaking of that, my google is failing me, so I can't confirm this or not. I wonder if people are more emotional after a long illness/injury recovery period? I swear, I cry endlessly now, at the silliest, littlest things. It's driving me crazy! My doctor said prolonged infections have a lot of effects on your body (for example, your red blood cells explode (I'm badly anemic now) -- "explode" is my doctor's word) Maybe it has an effect on your emotions, too...

On the To Do list for this week: Tomorrow night I'm going to the second information class for my surgery. Two and a half hours (ugh), same exact class I took the first time (sigh). We're required to attend it twice, even though it's the same class. There's not even a break! Two and a half hours sitting and listening to someone talk.

Also must do taxes. I know we still have time yet, but it feels like I'm running late. I'm still trying to catch up with paperwork/bills from my time in the hospital/recovering. Turns out I missed a credit card payment! EEEK! My first one ever, in the nearly ten years I had the card. They waved the fee for me (even without me asking, which was very nice), I just hope it doesn't go on my credit report.

(I've been trying to post this for more than 24 hours now. Lovely timing, LJ people. *sigh*

For the longest time, I said I couldn't move to DW because (among other reasons) I had ten years of posts on LJ. I'm still not intending to move, but with the LJ downtime/issues in the past few days and the LJ backup tool no longer being updated or supported, I was looking for other options.

Little did I know that you could import your entire LJ (comments, locks, and all) to DW with little more than a click of a button. Okay, you actually need to give your LJ name/password (which made me a little twitchy) and click two buttons plus select what you wanted imported from a checklist, but that's nearly the click of a button!

"RTFM!" Yeah, yeah, I've never read the DW FAQ. If I had, I would have found out about this sooner. Here is the FAQ page which contains the link to start from. It warns it might take up to a day to complete, but it's only 20 minutes for me and it's on the last step.

I'm not sure how I'll handle future posts (if I do at all), I've always updated directly on LJ and not on a client, but backing up all my previous entries makes me very happy. (The LJ backup tool still works for me, so I have an offline version as well, but it could die at any time.)

I'm kind of not happy with my DW journal. I was using it for Haken's IC posts for a time even though the account name is thistlechaser. I should have made a separate one for his... I guess if it ever becomes my primary blog I'll weed them out and put them somewhere new, but for now: Yay backup!

Oh, and if anyone saw the Teenycom post from yesterday and wonder where it went, I deleted it. The seller replied to me right away (she did in fact send the wrong hat to the wrong person and the other buyer contacted her the same day as well). Either she's going to refund me all of the money and I'll keep the fugly hat, or the other seller and I will both return the hats to her and she'll send them out again. I'm waiting to hear which.

I've been forcing myself to watch a movie a week for so long to make the $10/month worth it (which even for one movie totally isn't), and so this gives me a darned good excuse to finally quit. I really don't know why I was forcing myself to stay.

There's a thread here offering art of your WoW characters. I wasn't expecting much, but the guy is really good and I've laughed out loud at every picture he's posted so far!

I asked him to do one of Keen and Grace. He wrote "This is the only thing I know cats do" and posted this picture. Every time I look at it, I laugh! Their eyes! And it looks like she's about to pounce him and mother him, and he knows it!

That really is just too funny and impressive. :D

At some point in the update-to-Cata process, the game's /logs directory got remade and all my RP logs vanished. D: D:

Then I remembered that I had backups! So I checked and the logs are there. Yay!

On the down side (or maybe it's up side, depending in timing), the last logs I have are from 8/16. So I've lost about three months of them. But at least I didn't lose them all!

Note to self: It's been three months since I backed up my machine. It's overdue to be done again!

I wish WoW logs were saved like MU* logs, they'd be much easier to read and clean! But beggars can't be choosers, at least logging works!

So if you use WoWscribe, check your logs! And if they still exist, move them outside of the game's directory!

As part of my change from lunch, I was given a golden coin. Somewhat larger than a quarter, I actually thought it was some kind of a game token at first. It was heavy though, didn't feel cheap, so I kept it instead of asking for a "real" dollar. Coming back to the office, I googled. Apparently there's been a program getting these out for a while now, and will continue until 2014!

So, if you get one, don't be surprised. Mine looks like this one, but the picture doesn't do it justice -- it looks like a real golden coin. Pretty darned cool! I'm going to hold onto it instead of spending it.

In other news, FFXI had a "big" update today. Big if you like paying $10 for your update or if you enjoy the /bell command. The only thing that tempts me from it is the new mog house items. Arg! I miss decorating my mog house! I'm thinking of playing Animal Crossing to get that desire out of my system.
