Not at the last minute this time!

What I'm currently reading

I fished the third Fjorgyn book and posted the review of that. I started Good Omens, but dropped that. It was good, but the problem is it was exactly like the TV series (or reverse, I know), so it felt like I wasn't reading anything new. I'll give it another try once some time has passed.

I started reading a new book earlier today, though I can't recall the name and my Kindle isn't at hand. A "talking animals" book, about a dog who has been passed through a bunch of owners. Seems like it might be good, though I'm only a couple pages in.

What I'm currently watching

Usually I watch one show at a time, so this week has been schizophrenic. In no special order:

The Man in the High Castle: Only one new ep, because I can't multitask while watching. Still loving it.

Aftermath: A scifi show from 2006. About the end of the world, only more. Not just is the sun going dark, not just is the world being crashed into by meteors, there are demons and dragons and plagues and all sorts of craziness. The special effects are good, the horror is really good (I've been completely scared multiple times). It's just too bad the writing is god-awful. The characters are so unreasonable, stupid, and unlikable. The show has only one season (no surprise), I'm halfway through it.

Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams: Seems like a REALLY good version of the Twilight Zone, though I ruined the first ep by multitasking during it. Sigh. I think it had a really good twist, but it was lost on me because I wasn't paying attention. I need to watch the rest when I can focus on it.

Big Bang Theory: It's my show to watch when multitasking. I can enjoy it fine without paying attention. I wish more shows were like that. :P (But seriously, what happened to my attention span? I can't sit and watch anything and do nothing else at the same time.)

What I'm currently playing

Same as last week (and I don't expect this section to change much). I really need to give up Candy Crush (again), because it cuts too much into my reading time. Sigh. Someone should do a report on why it's so very addictive.

In an attempt to branch out from posting about only books, I'm going to try to use [livejournal.com profile] isiscolo's weekly post format of what I'm currently reading/watching/playing.

What I'm currently reading

I decided to bite the $1.99 bullet and get the third LitRPG Fjorgyn book. Its editing is a little worse than the previous two, but I suspect I'm going to get my money's worth from it.

What I'm currently watching

I finally gave The Man in the High Castle a chance (well technically, a second chance) and this time it totally hooked me. I watched the first nine (of ten) eps of season one in two days. I told myself I wouldn't marathon it, it's too heavy for that, but here I am.

I tried it once before, but hadn't even gotten through the first ep. Often times I want a show that I can just watch in the background while doing other stuff, and High Castle is NOT that kind of show.

What is that kind of show? Big Bang Theory. That has 12 season, 24 eps per season, and I've watched it from beginning to end six times now. Every time I hit the last ep, I just start over from season one again. It's really a perfect 'keep on in the background' show. I keep expecting to get sick of it, but so far nope (other than the themesong, I'm starting to hate that).

I'm also watching The Great Australian Bake-Off, which is a mirror copy of the British version. I finished the Canadian version a week or two back. All three are exactly the same. The hosts/judges are different people, but they fill the same roles, so it's basically the same show.

What I'm currently playing

FFXIV continues to be my MMO of choice. I've been playing it about six years now. If I'm home, I'm logged in, even if I'm not actively playing. Like now. I'm making this post, chatting on Discord, and have a show in the background.

Unfortunately I got drawn back into Candy Crush. Which would be fine, if it didn't eat into my reading time. It's way too easy to go from "I'll just play a moment now and then" to me spending all my pre-sleep reading time on it.

My other phone game of choice is at least not addictive. Jurassic World Alive. Basically Pokemon Go with dinosaurs (but a much better game).

(This is more a tongue-in-cheek post than a real complaining one. I know this is less than a drop in the bucket when it comes to problems caused by him.)

I keep hearing such good things about the The Man in the High Castle series, but I just cannot make myself watch a show about a world where the Nazis won. It feels way, way, way too much like what's happening in the real world.

I still haven't gone back to watching Designated Survivor again either, because of RL political crap.

I am, however, SERIOUSLY enjoying the A Series of Unfortunate Events series. (Ruin that, Trump, I dare you!) The humor in it reminds me a lot of Edward Scissorhands. The only "downside" of it is that it's so good I can't multitask during it, so it's taking me forever to get through the eight episodes.

In the Pokemon GO world, something happened to my game? Or something. GPS drift is so strong at my work desk, I usually get credit for 2-3 KMs of walking. Today, though the drift seems just as bad (I'm watching myself walk through the building, out to the parking lot, across it, then back, all without leaving my chair), I'm getting not a single step of credit for the movement. I wonder if they somehow closed that loophole? I hope not...

And in other random news, I had a "nightmare" last night, but it was so silly I really was just amused by it. In it, I helped my father (dead RL) at his moving company (wasn't his job at all), and we went to do a move for some woman. Her house was less than knee high, yet somehow when you went inside it was as big as a normal house. "Supernatural" things started happening... but they were so minor it was just plain silly. Like plant roots poked up through the ground and started waving around. Normal plant roots, so a couple inches long and thin -- not exactly threatening! Plus, for some reason, I brought my cat with me to the moving job... My father and I got scared and ran off though, and on the way passed some "priests" (more like MMO priests than religious) who were coming to take care of the supernatural problems. One got in my face all like "This is MY job!" and I was happy to agree and let him take care of it.

I was amused by that all morning. OH NO PLANT ROOTS
