At first I was sad about people (again) jumping ship from LJ, but now I'm more annoyed by the situation than anything else. I've put way too much time and effort trying to figure out how to keep reading journals and not losing contact with people, but came up with no good solution.

There's no way to not lose quality in my posts. If I post on DW and let it crosspost to LJ, I lose icon selection, plus there's the whole locking issue. (Not that I often lock posts, but I darned well should be able to if I want.)

If I read my friends list on DW (using a RSS feed to bring the posts from LJ to DW), again I lose icons, but also formatting and other things. Plus I wouldn't see others' locked posts.

So sorry people who are leaving LJ. I like you all, but the best I can do is try to read my DW circle (or whatever the hell term they use). I can't promise I'll remember to on a regular basis, but that's the best I can do.

From what I was able to test, crossposts will automatically lock to the same lock if you're using the friends lock/whatever-it's-called-on-DW that was imported from LiveJournal to Dreamwidth. It will also import all your icons (provided you have a Dreamwidth account that will support the number of icons you have). The locked
posts might be an issue though.

I'm not giving up on reading my LJ friends list (for the issues you listed), but just not *hosting* my posts there--just in case they decide to crackdown and remove posts or freeze my account due to violating one of their laws. Given your love of yaoi and the NSFW posts, I would be concerned as well. :)

Unfortunately I have a big difference in number of icons -- only 15 on DW! I think (hopefully) offering the RSS feed for people who don't want to read on LJ anymore will work.

At the moment, me reading my friends list both sites works. Every day I get about 35 posts on LJ and 3 on DW, so it's no hardship yet. :P I'm actually worried at the low DW number, I suspect I lost track of some people in the move.

I went ahead and ponied up for a paid account on DW as I'm going to let my LJ one lapse. But, iirc, you have a permanent LJ account, so I can see how that would be different for you.

But, hey, at least my journal is crossposting. :D
