For folks new to my LJ, years back I used to post disturbing stuff on a regular basis (always with warnings and descriptions). This video reminds me of that.

NWS: Brief view of girl parts. No gore, no sexual matters. ("Credit" for link goes to [livejournal.com profile] lives_this_life.)

I do NOT want to buy whatever it is she's knitting.

It really annoys me that America is so obsessed with "the royal baby". This is a silly question, but: Have they all forgotten history? The whole revolution we had so that we wouldn't have royalty? I bet most of these people would gleefully put themselves back under royal rule.

The evening news, a 30 minute show. Ten full minutes was spent on the baby. Next story? Plane crash on a NY runway. Got 30 seconds of airtime.

Sigh.

I feel the same way about celebrity babies (and relationships). Why do people care? Do they consider these people better than them, thus they want to know everything about them? I suspect/worry that's the case. Talk about bad judgement... How about wanting to know more about scientists? Why fawn over someone who can throw a football far, instead of over the guy who is working on a cure for cancer?

I know these aren't original questions or unique grumpiness, it's just this whole darned baby thing that set it off. They had a healthy baby? Great! But so did hundreds of other people today.

As most folks know, it takes a lot to surprise me.

I was standing around in Silvermoon, looking for RP, when a death knight approached Thistle. Thistle had sold this guy ink in the past and had repeatedly talked to him, so when he asked for Thistle to follow him elsewhere, it was reasonable that Thistle would trust him.

Out of the city they went, to a graveyard outside of Brill.

Then things got odd. Really, really odd.

ExpandShort RP log back here. Warning for sexual themes with dead things. Dead-dead things and death knight-dead things both... )

Rereading the log, his semicolon misuse was nearly as bad as the subject... Joking, though it did bother me as well. I'm just so WTF over this. Who in the world starts a RP like this with what's nearly a stranger? And there's no way I believe he wasn't leading up to something more than kissing...

*sniffles* I don't know why happy, hopeful videos always make me cry. I think something is cross-wired in my head.

(Work safe, though it is Burning Man, so there are a couple quick glimpses of scantily-clad people and suggestive positions.)

"Based on Dr. Seuss's final book before his death, this is a story about life's ups and downs, told by the people of Burning Man 2011."

This is just so sweet and positive and hopeful. I love everyone in the video. Every colorful, pierced, costumed, person in it.

This post on an Asperger comm boggles me. I actually stopped chewing dinner to just sit and peer at the screen. At first I thought I was misunderstanding things. The first line is:

I have just learned that my toddler nephew is on the spectrum! I can't tell you how excited this makes me.

That read like she was happy the nephew had it. That had to be wrong, that couldn't be right. So I kept reading:

Oh, and they have another baby on the way. Yes, my fingers are crossed for another Aspie!

I'm sorry, but what? Am I so behind the times that I'm in a totally different age? This is a disease, yes? Not some kind of lifestyle choice or... or... arg. Someone help my brain! None of the comments on that post are calling the person out on saying that!

Oh my friendsfriends list, what interesting things you always give me to read.

Anyway. In WoW, I tried PvPing for the first time in forever. Years, it's been (or at least feels like). But hey, paladin, high end of the bracket, it'd have to go well, right? Well, yes! I was level 38, and only person to give me any challenge at all (or successfully kill me) was a 38 rogue. Alas I'm not all that good at PvP, but the paladin skillset (and plate mail!) was enough to keep me upright most of the time. He killed me only once. Still, it was actually really enjoyable, even if the XP didn't make it worth doing.

Other stuff happened today, but that Asperger post drove everything else out of my head, grr.
thistlechaser: (Super Ninjas! (Naruto))
Since the queue was so short, I did four or five instances on Reed the Paladin today. The first couple were good, some tank pulled all of SM in like three pulls. Alas some DPS pissed him off and he left after two runs. Then I got some other tank, Mr. Tauren Paladin. Some BoE blue boots dropped, not perfect stats (agi/stam), but they were a big upgrade for me anyway, so I needed. He did as well. He won. Oh well, happens, at level 30 it's not like you're going to wear things for long anyway.

Then the party jumped on him. All of them. They told him to give them to me. That he didn't need them, I did.

Buh? He was a paladin too, we both needed, he won. I was fine with that. Happens. My concern at this point was finishing the instance. I want XP a lot more than boots! He ignored them, so they all kept heckling him. I could have spoken up in his defense, but we were almost to the last boss and I didn't want the group to break up before then. (I've seen it happen so many times.) So he pulls the last boss, we kill it, they all insult him one last time and drop. I didn't leave, I had to turn in quests. He stuck around too.

...buh? I have no idea why he thought I was together with any of the others, let alone why he would assume that one of the others was a girl and I was a guy. He actually gave me the boots, which I thanked him for. The line left me scratching my head though. I suppose it was supposed to be an insult? What kind of man am I, letting some uppity woman speak in my defense?

Oddness.

Related: I don't know if bear tanking is still rough in the 30s or I've just only run into sucky ones. Paladins seem to have a lot more control of things at this range.

Not much RP tonight. Had one long scene with someone who wrote nice long posts, but for some reason there was no spark. She seemed really nice OOCly, the character was both nice and interesting ICly, and Thistle would make friends with a rock if given half a chance, but for some reason the two characters just didn't click.

During the scene I did some math. In about two weeks Thistle should have enough gold for his flying mount/flying lessons. I know it's silly to plan that out so closely, but it's fun to calculate how many herbs/day he gets, estimate gold, and all that.

I poked around mount lists and such, trying to find the right flying mount for him (and groaning at the idea of doing jousting dailies yet again), then decided a wind rider is the best thing. Plus they're actually kind of cool looking, I've not really looked at one (let alone rode one) in ages.

Ku Klux Klan Says It Doesn't Condone Tea Party, Koran Burning, or Westboro Baptist Church's actions.

My first reaction was to worry about actually agreeing with the KKK on something, but in truth we all agree with them on a whole lot of things: It's good to have air to breathe, rotten food is worse than non-rotten, no one should be killed based solely on the color of their skin-- Oh wait, strike that last one.

On the Tea Party:

"Our Associates, members and supporters are here officially ordered: NOT to attend Tea Party events or support them in ANY way," writes the Klan. "The Tea Party does not represent any but a shallow limited political agenda, which fails to serve our Nations interests."

Part of me worries they don't officially support the Tea Party to make the tea baggers look better (if the KKK doesn't support them then clearly they can't really be nothing more than a bunch of racists!), but I'm probably giving them more credit than they deserve.

I visited the Bad Baby Names site (a collection of quotes from a board about naming your new baby) thinking it would be funny, but instead it's just so so painful and cringe-worthy. I worry about people with this little sense having babies.

Have three examples:

What is a nature realated name for a boy? I am pregnant with a boy and I already have four girls. My girls are Summer Skies, Autumn Night, April Shower, and Spring Flower. Please help I am due in November.

I am not pregnant yet but thinking about names...I just thought of the name Lourdes Solange. This baby will be 75% latina and 15% european :)

Which name do you think?
Brecklyn Kate
OR
Ridgely Mae
I'm torn between the 2.

A few days back [livejournal.com profile] hamburger posted a link to a site that lets guys leave reviews on female prostitutes. (Do I even need to give a NWS warning on that?) I've been unable to stop reading it. It's so very, very odd. Not sexy by a long shot, pretty much the opposite of sexy. I'm certain there's a heaping helping of dishonesty in the reviews too (otherwise England has nothing but the most beautiful, wonderful, sexy women as prostitutes, most of them not only getting off on what they do, but eager to love each and every one of her customers.)

I have zero issues with prostitution (it's your body, do with it as you will), so that's not why this site strikes me as so odd. I think it's because there's so much of what the site calls "GFE" -- a girlfriend experience. So many of the reviews make it sound like the girl actually likes the guy, wants to kiss him, loves blowing him, and enjoys the sex as much as he does. These guys really seem to believe it. It's the woman's job to make the guy think that (and maybe a few really do like it), but it ... bothers(?) me that the guys fall for it and buy it.

Yeah, yeah, you could say "men are stupid", "men think with their dicks", any of those type things, but this just seems so obvious: The women are doing a job, they're doing it for the money. If they really are ultra hot sexy women, would they love Joe Blow walking in off the street, Joe who sees prostitutes on a regular basis?

Maybe I'm totally wrong. Maybe I'm being too judgmental. This is just so strange. I guess I'm uncomfortable for the men? It's strange that I can't even put my finger on why this bothers me ('bothers' isn't even the right word). It's interesting though, a look at a life I know little about. I wish I could get a 100% honest version of the site.
